What the game tape showed (2015 at Michigan): Played 57 snaps and had a “factor” grade of nine plays, which means he had a tackle or pressured the quarterback. … Lined up at left defensive end in the Buckeyes’ 4-3 front. On third down, played right defensive tackle (twice), right defensive end (four snaps) and left defensive tackle (one snap). … Had an interception when he was unblocked, tipping the pass in the air and catching it. … Double-teamed less than 10 times. … Knows how to use his hands to get into the pads of blocker. … Dropped into zone coverage two times. … Sack came in 3.09 seconds when he overpowered right tackle. … Didn’t show a lot of pass-rush moves and occasionally took too wide of a route to the passer.

Caldwell on Bosa: “He can fit in any defense — he could do either [the strong-side or weak-side end spots]. He can [be an interior pass rusher], too. You want to be careful – you want to settle him into one spot and get him comfortable doing that first [before moving him around].”

DEFOREST BUCKNER

Position: Defensive line.

College: Oregon.

Height/weight: 6-7/291.

Key information: A four-year player for the Ducks, he had 232 tackles (36 for lost yardage) and 18 sacks in 54 games (38 starts). … Pac 12 Defensive Player of the Year and second-team All-America as a senior (83 tackles, 10.5 sacks). … Uses his height to bat down passes — nine in last two years. … Grew up in Hawaii. … Never missed a game in college. … Did not bench-press at Combine and ran 5.06 seconds in the 40. … Hand size of 11 3/4 inches was largest at Combine. … Made pre-draft visit to Jaguars earlier this month.

What the game tape showed (2015 at Michigan State): A league source said Thursday this was Buckner’s toughest game of 2015 — and it showed. He played 65 snaps and had a “factor” grade of only six plays. Most of the time, he was a non-factor. … Played right defensive end on all but six snaps in the Ducks’ 3-4 front. … Played defensive tackle on five snaps. … No question he’s athletic and able to stay on his feet. … Didn’t show much variety in his pass-rush moves. … Didn’t line up wide at all, suggesting he would be a better fit as a strong-side end for the Jaguars. … Had five plus plays against projected first-round pick Jack Conklin. … Showed good power when he got his hands into Conklin’s pads. …. Was double-teamed 11 times.

Caldwell on Buckner: “He can play in any system. He could be a three-technique [tackle] for us, he could be a 4B [strong-side end] for us. He could play a six-technique [lined up outside the offensive tackle].”

MYLES JACK

Position: Linebacker.

College: UCLA.

Height/weight: 6-1/245.

What the game tape showed (2014 vs. Texas): Played 62 snaps and had a “factor” grade of 12. … Simply put, he played all over the field – outside linebacker (on and off the line of scrimmage), middle linebacker (in sub-package) and covering the slot receiver. … Blitzed five times. On the final pass rush, was unblocked and skied to break up a pass in the red zone. … Showed tremendous coverage ability, taking turns against running backs, tight ends and receivers. … On back to back plays, dodged tight end’s block to blow up receiver screen and eluded offensive tackle’s block to stop a running back screen. … Minus plays came when he over-pursued the play and got out of position.

Caldwell on Jack: “He’s a rare athlete. Rare explosion. Great kid. Smart football player. Three-down player. We’ve talked about [strong-side linebacker]. He’s going to definitely be on the field as a rookie in nickel, which is 65 percent of the snaps. … He’s really good in coverage, but he has the skill set to be a blitzer.”

JALEN RAMSEY

Position: Cornerback/safety.

College: Florida State.

Height/weight: 6-1/209.

Key information: Started all 41 games of his three-year Seminoles career, recording 181 tackles, 23 pass break-ups and three interceptions. … Played free safety for national champions as a true freshman before moving to “Star” spot (hybrid safety/linebacker) as a sophomore and cornerback as a junior. … Excellent workout at Combine — 4.41 seconds in 40 and tied for best marks in the vertical (41.5 inches) and broad (11 feet, 3 inches) jumps. … Visited Jacksonville earlier this month.

What the game tape showed (2015 Peach Bowl vs. Houston): Never left the field, playing a whopping 99 snaps against the Cougars. Had a “factor” grade of nine plays. … The Florida State coaches didn’t take advantage of his talent, leaving him in one spot nearly the whole game. … When assigned to a receiver, played outside on all but three snaps — two in the slot and one at safety. … Followed receiver across the formation in motion just once. … Played press coverage 48 times and off coverage 17 times. … Ramsey took away half the field – Houston was 2-of-5 passing at him (Cougars had 46 attempts). … Blitzed several times with little impact.

Caldwell on Ramsey: “He has rare athleticism, length and speed. He’s physical. From a physical standpoint, he can do it all. He’s an A-plus kid.”

Meglepő módon a Jaguars nincs azon 10 csapat között, akik felvették már a kapcsolatot Josh Norman ügynökével.

Nálam valahogy az k.rva nagy red flag, hogy a Panthers nem akarta igazán megtartani. Fasza kis védelem van ott, de egy a szisztémába remekül illeszkedő CB szélnek eresztése ott se magától értetődő döntés.

28 éves, volt 1,5 jó szezonja és a top5 CB fizetés átlaga nem volt elég neki... szerintem teljesedjen ki máshol a karrierje. Még a FA időszak elején lelkesedtem volna, most pont a Panthers döntése miatt már távol maradnék tőle.

Mondjuk az egy zseniális húzás lenne a Panthers FO részéről, ha csak azért engednék az FA piacon megmérettetni a srácot, hogy lássa, hogy nincs kolbászból dollárból a kerítés másfelé se és utána egy tag alatti összeggel is vissza tudnák magukhoz igazolni. 😊

A Jaguars külön kérésére csináltak vizsgálatokat a Clemson DE Shaq Lawson vállával kapcsolatban múlt héten. Van egy olyan érzésem, hogy ha a nagy hármasból már csak Bosa van bent, akkor lehet inkább Lawsont visszük, és nem őt. Egyesek szerint jobban is illene LEO posztra, mint Bosa. Although players have been inside EverBank Field for several weeks training for the upcoming season, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley’s fourth year doesn’t officially begin until Monday when he is allowed to address the full squad.

The Jaguars’ two-month offseason program will include 10 organized team activity workouts in late May/early June and finish with a mandatory mini-camp June 14-16 (everything else is voluntary).

Since the Jaguars were last together Jan. 4, Bradley has signed a one-year extension, Todd Wash has been promoted to defensive coordinator and seven free agents have been added.

“There’s a lot of excitement, but the big thing is, we need to go to work,” Bradley said in an interview Thursday. “We’ll have different things going on — it’s the offensive staff’s second year teaching the system. Last year, the challenge was learning it; this year, the challenge is to hold each other accountable to a standard.

“Defensively, there will be some subtle differences in what we do — a different approach — so they’ll get a feel for that part of it. We’re going to really try and grow in a lot of areas the first two weeks and then progress through OTAs.”

Here are four Jaguars issues to follow this spring:

CLARITY AT CENTER

The Jaguars are looking at a fourth center in as many years — Brad Meester retired after 2013, Luke Bowanko was put on the bench after 2014 and Stefen Wisniewski wasn’t re-signed after 2015. The Jaguars offered Wisniewski one- and two-year contracts (money unknown), but he decided to sign with Philadelphia to compete for a starting guard spot.

Uninterested in bringing Wisniewski back and unwilling to jump into the Alex Mack fray, the Jaguars have been in a holding pattern at a position they call the second-most important on the offensive line after left tackle. The in-house candidates are Bowanko (no snaps last year), right guard Brandon Linder (coming off shoulder surgery) and Tyler Shatley (no NFL center snaps).

Earlier this offseason, general manager Dave Caldwell said it was “trending,” toward Linder being moved to center. Now?

“I think Gus and the coaches are working through that now — I don’t think they’ll have any answers until after the draft on that one,” Caldwell said.

Answer A from the draft: The Jaguars draft a center and anticipate him starting Week 1 against Green Bay. Alabama’s Ryan Kelly visited the team earlier this month, the only center to do so.

Answer B from the draft: The Jaguars draft a guard and move Linder to center. The Jaguars haven’t brought in any guards for a pre-draft visit.

By the time OTAs start May 23, it would make sense to have some center clarity.

TRANSITION TO WASH

Last spring was all about how new offensive coordinator Greg Olson would get his group up to speed. The Jaguars improved from 15.6 points per game to 23.5 and from 289.6 yards to 348.8. Can Wash have the same kind of impact on the defense?

The Jaguars allowed 375 yards and 28 points per game last year. Bradley turfed Bob Babich, but promoted Wash instead of embracing a complete overhaul. And when free agent opened, the Jaguars spent to sign defensive tackle Malik Jackson, safety Tashaun Gipson, cornerback Prince Amukamara and a top-draft-pick-to-be-named. Plus, Dante Fowler will debut and Sen’Derrick Marks will return from injury.

The expectation for this Jaguars defense shouldn’t be that it will be greatly improved; it should be that they’ll be less awful.

“It will be a re-commitment to the details and a re-commitment to a standard,” Bradley said. “Holding them accountable — it’s one of Todd’s strengths. We’ve seen that in how he handles the defensive line and now I think it will filter through the entire defense.”

BUILDING CHEMISTRY

Already full of newbies (the aforementioned Jackson, Gipson and Amukamara), the Jaguars are expected to add multiple draft picks.

The Jaguars will then begin a race to get ready for an opening-month quarterbacking gauntlet of Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers, Joe Flacco and Andrew Luck.

The offseason program will be important to installing the tweaked scheme, but also integrating Fowler, Jackson, Amukamara, Gipson and the draft class to a group that returns Marks, Roy Miller, Jared Odrick, Telvin Smith, Paul Posluszny and Davon House, among others.

“I agree with that, big-time,” Bradley said of needing to build chemistry. “We’ve signed free agents so it’s bringing the mix together and playing as a unit. You’ve heard me say in years past how important communication is and how important discipline and understanding the system is. We have to speed that part up.”

Assuming the offense will again be mostly productive, even a slightly-better defense will give the Jaguars a puncher’s chance this fall.

NEW ROLES

The Jaguars used the second overall pick in 2013 on left tackle Luke Joeckel, the hope being he would anchor the offensive line for the next decade. He’ll enter his fourth training camp as the decided underdog in his competition against newcomer Kelvin Beachum (who will be out until August because of a knee injury).

The Jaguars used the 36th pick last year on tailback T.J. Yeldon, the anticipation being he would kick-start a dormant run game. He’ll enter his second training camp seeing his workload decreased because of newcomer Chris Ivory, a 1,000-yard rusher in 2015 for the Jets.

Bradley, naturally, is confident Joeckel and Yeldon will respond positively.

“Great. Unbelievable,” Bradley said of his talks with both players. “I’ve talked to Luke more than I have T.J. … Luke’s been outstanding. He’s focused on what he needs to do and how needs to improve.

“From everything I’ve heard, T.J. has had a tremendous off-season so we’re excited to get him back here. I don’t think Chris will be his focus, it will be about what he needs to do.”

Sen'Derrick Marks azt mondta, olyan tűz van most benne, mint 2013-ban. Reméli hogy most elkerülik a sérülések, és nem aggódik Malik Jackson érkezése miatt és reméli nagyon hamar megtalálják a közös hangot.
