Kíváncsi voltam a rhabdomyolysis kiváltó okaira. Íme néhány.

Recognized physical causes for rhabdomyolysis:

* Traumatic compression of muscles: crush syndrome (e.g., in earthquakes), car accident, confinement in a fixed position (e.g. after a stroke, due to drunkenness or in prolonged surgery), physical torture or abuse
* Obstruction of blood supply to muscles: arterial thrombosis (blood clots forming locally) or embolism (clots or other debris from elsewhere in the body), clamping of an artery during surgery, generally reduced blood supply in shock or sepsis (due to any cause)
* Excessive muscle strain or activity: extreme physical exercise (particularly when poorly hydrated), delirium tremens (alcohol withdrawal), tetanus, prolonged seizures or status epilepticus
* Electrical: lightning, high-voltage electric shock, including electroshock weapon injuries[5]

Non-physical causes reported to cause rhabdomyolysis include:

* Drugs of abuse,[10] including: ethanol,[11] methamphetamines,[12] cocaine,[13] heroin,[14] phencyclidine (PCP),[15] ketamine,[16] and MDMA (ecstasy)[17][18]

Félkövérrel a legvalószínűbb (vagyis az Iowai Kiképzőtábor frankón működik).

The University of Iowa said Wednesday that 13 football players had to be hospitalized this week with a muscle disorder following grueling offseason workouts that left them with extreme soreness and discolored urine.

The players have rhabdomyolysis, a stress-induced syndrome that can damage cells and cause kidney damage and even failure in severe cases, school spokesman Tom Moore said at a news conference two days after players were hospitalized at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Tavaly szó nélkül aláírtam volna, de most azért nem biztos, hogy el kellene kapkodni.

A Texas Tech elleni bowl után a sajtótájékoztatón számomra nem túl szimpatikusan (mások szerint brilliáns motivációs tényező lesz jövőre) gyakorlatilag a rangidős (jövőre senior) játékosokon verte el a port:

Persa sérülése után QB csere-bere, kavarás kb annyi tudatosságot mutatott, mint a levágott fejű csirke rohangálása az udvaron, hogy Watkins futó irányítóként való szerepeltetését ne is említsem.

A támadófal Bret Ingalls távozása óta a fejlődés legkisebb jelét sem mutatja, sőt inkább visszafelé tesz egy-egy lépést. Annak ellenére, hogy a 2008-ban még RS freshman Burkettnek és Netternek mára a konf elitjei között lenne a helye a három évvel ezelőtti játékukat nézve.

Passing game koordinátor és WR edző elvesztése idén nagy veszteség. A támadóknál a WR sor volt az, ahol a távozók ellenére mindig elő tudott lépni valaki az ismeretlenből.

Amennyiben Persa felépül, és első naptól rendelkezésre fog állni, 2011 döntő év lehet abból a szempontból, hogy Fitzgerald tud-e még egy szintet ugrani a csapattal, vagy maradnak a mostani szinten, ami félreértés ne essék nagy eredmény az egyetem lehetőségeihez képest, de evés közben jön meg az étvágy... az idei évről csak azért lehet pozitívan beszélni mindenképpen, mert Persának bejött az a félelmetes dobása az Iowa ellen.

Legends and Leaders, the names for the Big Ten’s two new divisions, are sticking around. At least through next football season. [...] Big Ten chief communications officer Diane Dietz said Friday that the league will do market research during the 2011 season to see how the names play out.

“We’ve always said we’ve heard the feedback. We’re listening. We want to test them and the only way to test them is to let them do what they were intended to do,” Dietz said.

Commissioner Jim Delany said in an earlier radio interview that the names Legends and Leaders were picked to highlight the conference’s rich history and acknowledged he was surprised by the negative feedback.
