túl vagyunk a szezon felén. az első heti notre dame elleni nem igazán várt magas szintű leszereplés után charlie strong új play caller-t nevezett ki jay norvell személyében (WR edző), illetve a harmadik játékhhéttől tyrone swoopes helyét jerrod heard vette át irányító poszton. két utolsó másopdercekben elvesztett meccs és a TCU elleni őrületes égés után, az AP listán a 10-ik helyen tanyázó oklahoma sooners ellen sikerült diadalmaskodni. nézzük meg kik a csapat arcai:

1. QB Jerrod Heard: The coaches will likely stick with the run-oriented, zone-read offense utilized against the Sooners. But at some point, Heard will have to win a game with his arm. He’s completed 57.5 percent of his passes for 714 yards. Fans want to see “the Juice” turned loose and run wild. But teams will use linebacker spies to keep him corralled.

2. DT Hassan Ridgeway: Nicknamed the “Green Mile,” Ridgeway had a slow start this season because of a back injury. But he was fantastic against Oklahoma State, and the Cowboys managed just 103 yards. Ridgeway stuffed the middle against Oklahoma, helping UT win on first and second down. He’s got to keep plugging away.

3. LB Malik Jefferson: The freshman finally had a breakout statistical day against OU with six tackles and two sacks. He’s clearly more comfortable playing on the edges than in the middle. Jefferson is viewed as the de facto freshmen leader. He speaks for the group, and recruits are watching how he performs. If Jefferson excels, future recruits will believe they can, too.

4. (tie) LT Connor Williams, RG Patrick Vahe: These two freshmen may be forever tied together since starting from day one. Veterans Sed Flowers, Taylor Doyle and Kent Perkins can show them the ropes. But, like Jefferson, UT needs both of these youngsters to play well for recruiting purposes. How best to judge? Watching the rushing totals.

5. RB D’Onta Foreman: Speaking of running statistics, Foreman averages 6.2 yards per carry compared to Johnathan Gray’s 3.7. The sophomore is a bruiser with a knack for falling forward. Foreman’s had 11 carries for 79 yards from inside Texas’ own 20-yard line. A 12th carry went for 81 yards against OU. He should be UT’s lead running threat.

6. DE Naashon Hughes: Halfway through the season, Hughes is fourth on the team with 28 tackles. He’s also got 1.5 sacks and three quarterback pressures. Those are just OK numbers. Hughes has proven himself to be UT’s top threat at defensive end, and teams can scheme to run toward the weaker side. Can he create more havoc?

7. WR Daje Johnson: Suffering a concussion against TCU was plain bad luck. Johnson got sandwiched by two tacklers on UT’s second offensive play and essentially missed two games. He should be a prime feature on jet sweeps in the coming weeks. Johnson bragged about having better hands in August. It’s time to see him catch passes in the open field.

8. CB Duke Thomas: UT fans are excited about freshmen Holton Hill, Kris Boyd and Davante Davis, and for good reason. Thomas rarely leaves the field, though. It’s easy to nitpick and downgrade Thomas’ overall performance against OU for allowing a 50-yard completion on a pump-and-go. But his pressure on corner blitzes made a huge difference.

9. K Nick Rose: How many UT fans were holding their breath on Rose’s 27-yarder last week? He drilled it, but many will never forgive the missed extra-point attempt against Cal. Rose is 5-for-8 on field goals so far this season. All Strong cares about is Rose hitting from 40 yards and in. There will be some huge opportunities ahead.

10. QB Tyrone Swoopes: The short-yardage “18 Wheeler” package is the perfect fit for a player who could have mailed it in after losing the starting quarterback job. Now, Swoopes is fully engaged and plays a critical role on third-and-short. The pop pass was a nice change of pace on the goal line last week, too. Swoopes will do something huge in the weeks ahead. Bank on it.

remény, jövőkép van, de nem hiszem hogy most lesz keresni valónk a pályán. a védelem nyeli ezerrel a yardokat: mind földön, mind levegőben. az offense mozgatórugója jerrod heard aki meccsenként 78 yardot átlagol a földön. egyébként kurva jó lába van a srácnak, jól lát futva, jól észreveszi az utakat, a lehetőségeket. passz játékban is sokkal kiemelkedőbb, mint tyrone swoopes volt. csak hát az a fránya OL. hosszú távon nem lesz jó, mert elkezdik levédekezni heard futásait. már kaptunk is reprezentálást az oklahoma state-től. a TCU után a 15-ikként rangsorolt oklahoma sooners jön. szóval előre bevések 1-5ö-s mérleget.

ez kegyetlen volt. a játék minden elemében alulmaradtunk, mindössze egyénileg vannak kiemelkedő teljesítmények. meg kell említeni az 5*-os true freshman LB-t malik jefferson-t: 9 tackle, 2.5 TFL(!). nagy karrier elé néz austinban.

térjünk rá a notre dame utáni helyzetre.
- az irish irányító malik zaire-nek 22-ből 19 sikeres passza volt és 250.9 rating(!)
- a texas offense produkciója: 163 total yard és összesen nyolc 3&out.
- sorozatban három meccset vesztettek (TCU, arkansas, notre dame) és nemzeti szinten az utolsók a total offense-ben és 120-ikok (a 128-ból) a scoring offense-ben.
- az elmúlt három meccs alatt összesen 20 pontot 512 yardot szerzett az offense.
- 14 meccs alatt (shawn watson offensive coordinatorral az élen) 6-szor volt 10 vagy kevesebb pont.

az égés után dőlt az első dominó. charlie strong bejelentette, hogy shawn watson-t "megfosztotta" a játék hívás lehetőségétől, amit a WR edző jay norvell kezébe adott. igen jó elkapókat csiszolt ki oklahomában (kenny stills, sterling shepard, ryan broyles, stb.). elsődleges play hívó utoljára az UCLA-nél volt 2007-ben.

a kezdő irányítókérdés sem dőlt még el: "We're going to make that decision at the end of the week." swoopes masszívabb felépítésű, míg heard amolyan "madár csontozatú"-nak néz ki, azonban személy szerint lendületesebbnek láttam az offense-t amig heard volt a pályán, mégha nem is láttunk sokat. én bizalmat vetek belé. a rice ellen mindketten játszanak, és heard még több játékidőt kap majd.

a junior tyrone swoopes lett megnevezve kezdőirányítónak, de charlie strong azt állította a redshirt freshman jerrod heard is kap néhány play-t.
swoopes a 2014-es szezonban azután vált kezdővé miután david ash már az első játékhéten a north texas ellen fejsérülést szenvedett (pát hét múlva vissza is vonult a football-tól).
passzainak 58%-a volt sikeres, 2409 yardot, 13 TD-t és 11 INT-et szerzett. 11 INT-jéből 5, az utolsó két meccsen, a TCU és bowl meccsen, az arkansas ellen jött össze (előbbi ellen 48-10-re, míg az utóbbinál 37-7-re kaptak ki - kiemelem az offense résézről az 59 total yardot(!)). teljesítménye egész évben hullámzó volt, épp emiatt lett nyitott ajtó az irányító kérdés.
az utóbbi hetekben nyilvánvalóvá vált, hogy heard nem áll készen, swoopes jobb teljesítményt nyújt egy fokkal. azért kapott bizalmat mert jobb vezetői képességet mutatott fel a tábor alatt illetve ismeri az offense-t (ami egyébként a tavalyi pro-style-ról up-tempo spread offense-re).
ne legyünk benne biztosak, hogy swoopes fogja befejezni a szezont (és nem a sérülésre kell gondolni itt).

a jövőbeli irányítókérdés is optimizmusra adhat okot. az idei szerzeményről, kai lockley-ről igen pozitiv hírek érkeznek (mobilitása mellett, erősebb a karja mint heard-nek); nemrég íratkozott be matthew merrick; a 2016-os commit, shane buechele elite 11-es, illetve nemzeti szinten a 130. legjobb játékos, míg posztján a 2.-ik legjobb dual threat irányító. ezen kívül 2017-re is van egy commit-unk, sam ehlinger személyében, aki posztján a 9-ik legjobb jelenleg.
