14. What kind of impact will new left guard Zane Beadles make?

Beadles was the Jaguars’ top target in free agency and it took a matter of seconds for them to announce the five-year, $30 million contract was agreed upon.

Beadles, who played his first four NFL seasons with Denver, is the most experienced Jaguars starting offensive line even though he’s just 27 years old.

His job is two-fold.

*Solidify the left guard spot. The Jaguars’ left guards since Week 1 of the 2012 season – Eben Britton, Herb Taylor, Mike Brewster, Austin Pasztor, Will Rackley and Jacques McClendon.

*Be a leader. The ages of the other projected starters are 23 (Pasztor at right tackle), 22 (Luke Joeckel at left tackle), 24 (Brewster at center) and 22 (Brandon Linder at right guard).

“He’s certainly as advertised and then some,” offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said this week. “I got the impression during free agency that he would make an impact as a leader and by having such a young offensive line, he knew he had to step it up there.”

Biztos upgrade lesz Rackleyhez vagy Brewsterhez képest, kérdés, hogy mekkora. Ha Joeckellel stabil tandemet tudnak alkotni, akkor legalább a vak oldal miatt nem kell aggódnunk (fogunk azt úgy is eleget úgyis a C-RG poszt miatt... )

Nos a 10 meccs azért elég meredek lenne, bár szerintem a divízió 6 meccséből 4-et meg tudunk nyerni. Ezen felül a 'boys, a brownst, a pitt és a redskins meccsek közül 3-at. Ha ez a dolog bejön (7-9) én már kifejezetten elégedett leszek.

Nálam továbbra is valahol 6-10 körül van az elvárás idénre. Hiába tűnik gyengébbnek az idei menetrend, annyit azért nem erősödtünk, és sok a kérdőjel(O-fal milyen lesz az a jobb oldalon és főleg C poszton, pass rush, QB play - Hennenek nem volt 7 győzelemnél jobb szezonja az NFLben) még velünk kapcsolatban.

13. Will the Jaguars be more competitive against Indianapolis this year?

To show progress this year, the Jaguars need to play better against the top teams – they didn’t get within 17 points of an eventual playoff team in 2013.

Indianapolis took over the AFC South from Houston last year and the division clearly goes through the Colts. You won’t find a preseason magazine that doesn’t have the Colts atop the AFC South.

The Jaguars were overmatched by Indianapolis last year.

Week 4 at EverBank Field: Indianapolis 37, Jaguars 3. The Colts rolled up 437 yards and controlled the clock for more than 36 minutes.

Week 17 at Lucas Oil Stadium: Indianapolis 30, Jaguars 10. The Colts were on their way to the postseason and the Jaguars were simply out of gas.

This year, the Jaguars host Indianapolis in the home opener (Week 3) and then play at the Colts in Week 12 (after the bye).

The Colts added three starters in free agency: Receiver Hakeem Nicks, linebacker D’Qwell Jackson and nose tackle Arthur Jones.

Where the Jaguars’ defense can cause Indianapolis some problems – by being better against the run and chiefly Trent Richardson and by equal parts putting more pressure on Andrew Luck/containing Luck’s scrambling.

Where the Jaguars’ offense can cause Indianapolis some problems – by playing keep away from Luck, which means running it well (the Colts were 26th against the rush last year).

The Week 3 game in Jacksonville will provide a great barometer for the Jaguars.

12. Besides the second-round receivers, which Jaguars draft pick will make the biggest impact this year?

The Jaguars hope Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson are healthy and able to make big plays this year and hope right guard Brandon Linder emerges as the starter during camp.

But in terms of impact plays, defensive end Chris Smith could be a factor in the pass rush.

A fifth-round pick (No. 159 overall) from Arkansas, Smith impressed the Jaguars’ coaching staff when they had him at the Senior Bowl in late January. Although listed at 6-foot-1, Smith has the arm length of a player in the 6-5 to 6-7 range.

Smith’s height and balance allows him to get low to the ground and around bigger – and stiffer – offensive tackles.

Smith’s arm length allows him to keep his distance from those pass protectors.

In 43 games (27 starts) for the Razorbacks, Smith had 122 tackles, 21.5 sacks and 20 quarterback pressures.

Smith would likely see time on third down when the Jaguars deploy 3-4 Leos on the field and he will get favorable match-ups if lined up opposite Chris Clemons.

11. Is Sen’Derrick Marks playing fewer snaps this year a realistic goal?

It’s a legitimate goal – coach Gus Bradley and defensive line coach Todd Wash have said as much.

And it would be shocking if the Jaguars don’t make it a reality starting with the season opener against Philadelphia’s fast-break offense.

Last year, Marks played 931 of 1,120 snaps – 83.1 percent, a staggering amount for an interior defensive lineman. Marks led Jaguars defensive linemen in snaps played in all but two games (Tyson Alualu had more against St. Louis and San Diego).

The Jaguars addressed the situation by signing Ziggy Hood, who will enter camp as the No. 3 defensive tackle. Another big plus is getting back starter Roy Miller from shoulder surgery.

Another thing that will lessen Marks’ load: The addition of Red Bryant, who can slide inside on third down, the development of second-year player Abry Jones, the decision to move Alualu from the “big” end spot to reserve tackle.

That gives the Jaguars a first tackle unit of Marks-Miller, a second unit of Hood-Alualu and a Jones as a swing guy.

If Marks can cut his percentage down to 70 percent, that’s eight fewer snaps per game compared to last year which means, essentially, taking two possessions off per game.

Én is kb oda(=29.) lőném be magunkat jelenleg. És ilyen sorsolással, az erősítésekkel (főleg a Dben) és ezzel az edzői stábbal remélem összeszedünk idén már 6-7 Wt.

Mondjuk szerencsére egyre több helyen veszik észre, hogy milyen csapatépítés folyik nálunk, lásd a Fox Sports videó múlt héten és pár hszzel lejjebb, ami nagyon korrekt képet vázolt rólunk. Mellesleg náluk a 28.ak vagyunk!

10. Which match-ups should be favorable for the Jaguars?

The Jaguars have been the point-spread underdog in all but one game the last two years, and as of now, that trend hasn’t changed – until they start beating decent teams, they’ll have a ‘+’ next to their name on the latest line.

Week 6 – at Tennessee: The Jaguars started last year’s second half with a win in Nashville that was also the beginning of the end for coach Mike Munchak and most of his staff. Even with new coaches, the Titans still have problems, chiefly at quarterback (Jake Locker), running back (Chris Johnson was cut) and at cornerback (Alterraun Verner signed with Tampa Bay).

Week 8 – Miami: A big game for the Jaguars because of how the schedule sets up – home to Miami, at Cincinnati, vs. Dallas in London, bye week and at Indianapolis. If the Jaguars want to show improvement this year, they win games like this. The Dolphins were active in free agency (Branden Albert, Knowshon Moreno, Louis Delmas and Earl Mitchell). Ryan Tannehill was sacked 58 times last year so the Jaguars’ revamped pass rush should have the advantage.

Week 13 –NY Giants: The Giants will be interesting to watch early on. Ben McAdoo has replaced Kevin Gilbride as the offensive coordinator, tasked with improving an offense that was 28th in scoring and 30th in rushing and getting Eli Manning untracked. The Giants added a ton of players in free agency, including former Jaguars running back Rashad Jennings and former Seattle cornerback Walter Thurmond (who visited the Jaguars before signing with the Giants).

Week 14 – Houston: Who knows which quarterback will start for the Texans for this Dec. 7 game – the first of the teams’ two meetings in the season’s last four weeks. Ryan Fitzpatrick? Case Keenum? Tom Savage? Even with J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney on the Texans’ defense, the Jaguars need to start winning division home games.

Things get murky after the top four (if Sanders is included among that group), as eight players could be battling for three spots.

Brown and Kerry Taylor received valuable playing time last season. Tandon Doss plays all four special-teams units, so he has value, and undrafted rookie Allen Hurns was one of the OTA/minicamp standouts.

“I trust Mike Brown,” Sullivan said. “He’s a steady Eddie guy. He captured the opportunity when it was available to him last year.”

A calf injury cost Doss most of the on-field activities in June, and Sullivan admits, “He’s got a ways to go. He’s working at it.”

Hurns drew organization-wide praise for his practice play once he signed as an undrafted free agent.

But could the Jaguars keep three rookie receivers?

“I like the kid,” Sullivan said. “I think he has some natural instincts. He has a chance to help us.”
