Halloren sorozatának következő darabja - vajon Dekoda Watson egészséges lesz-e végre TCre4 Will Dekoda Watson be ready for the start of training camp?
Watson, signed on the second day of free agency to fill the Jaguars’ new Otto linebacker spot that will be positioned at the line of scrimmage and be involved in the running and passing games, sustained a groin injury in mid-May.
Watson missed all nine organized team activity workouts and all three mini-camp practices, significant because he’s new to the defense and as former Jaguars linebacker Daryl Smith can attest, groin injuries are tricky and full of potential setbacks.
Watson has been around the Jaguars’ complex this month to continue his rehab and the company line has been that he’ll be available for the start of camp.
On Monday morning, Watson tweeted:
@DekodaWatson ·
YO! I just want to train! Am I asking for too much!? Ugh!
It’s always tough to read into what a player is insinuating with a Tweet, but that is pretty clear-cut.
If Watson is limited at the start of camp, it will provide second-year player LaRoy Reynolds with a golden opportunity to get first-team reps (like he did during the off-season).
The guess is that Watson will be on a managed schedule early in camp and be ready to start against Philadelphia on Sept. 7.

I think I have a couple guys on my sack list: AFC West resident Peyton Manning, fellow Class of 2014 member Blake Bortles, and I’ve got to put Tom Brady on there. Brady is going to pass the ball more than 36 times a game, so that’s a lot of opportunities for me.De azért aranyos, hogy Manning és Brady mellett Blake van kiemelt helyen nála.

Mit várhatunk számszerűleg a Robinson - Lee párostól 3 What are the reasonable expectations for rookie receivers Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson?Egyetértek Halloren konklúziójával.
The Jaguars used the 39th overall pick to select Lee from USC and then traded up to No. 60 to take Robinson from Penn State on the draft’s second night.
Lee and Robinson will get ample opportunities to play right away … they just have to get on the field. Lee (ankle) and Robinson (hamstring) both missed the last five OTAs and all three mini-camp practices.
Their absence allowed Allen Hurns, Kerry Taylor, Damian Copeland, etc., to show their talents, but make no mistake, the Jaguars’ depth chart is 1. Cecil Shorts and 2./3. Lee or Robinson.
Here are how second-round receivers have fared as rookies the last five years:
2013
Justin Hunter (No. 34 pick to Tennessee): 18 catches, 354 yards, four touchdowns.
Robert Woods (No. 41 to Buffalo): 40 catches, 587 yards, three touchdowns.
Aaron Dobson (No. 59 to New England): 37 catches, 519 yards, four touchdowns.
2012
Brian Quick (No. 33 to St. Louis): 11 catches, 156 yards, two touchdowns.
Stephen Hill (No. 43 to NY Jets): 21 catches, 252 yards, three touchdowns.
Alshon Jeffrey (No. 45 to Chicago): 24 catches, 367 yards, three touchdowns.
Ryan Broyles (No. 54 to Detroit): 22 catches, 310 yards, two touchdowns.
Rueben Randle (No. 63 to NY Giants): 19 catches, 298 yards, three touchdowns.
2011
Titus Young (No. 44 to Detroit): 48 catches, 607 yards, six touchdowns.
Torrey Smith (No. 58 to Baltimore): 50 catches, 841 yards, seven touchdowns.
Greg Little (No. 59 to Cleveland): 61 catches, 709 yards, two touchdowns.
Randall Cobb (No. 64 to Green Bay): 25 catches, 375 yards, one touchdown.
2010
Brian Robiskie (No. 36 to Cleveland): Seven catches, 106 yards, no touchdowns.
Mohamed Massaquoi (No. 50 to Cleveland): 34 catches, 624 yards, three touchdowns.
2009
Dexter McCluster (No. 36 to Kansas City): 21 catches, 209 yards, one touchdown.
Arrelious Benn (No. 39 to Tampa Bay): 25 catches, 395 yards, two touchdowns.
Golden Tate (No. 60 to Seattle): 21 catches, 227 yards, no touchdowns.
As for Lee and Robinson, if they can match Smith’s production with the Ravens or Little’s first year with the Browns, the Jaguars should be happy.

Halloren elmélkedései a szezonról II - Gerhart szerepe2. What kind of production should Toby Gerhart expect to get? )
Hours after the free agent signing period opened March 11, Gerhart agreed to a three-year contract with the Jaguars, signaling a new era at the running back position.
Maurice Jones-Drew was out after eight years, 1,804 carries, 8,071 yards and 68 touchdowns – he would sign with Oakland.
In was Gerhart, who had 276 carries for 1,305 yards and five touchdowns in four years with Minnesota as Adrian Peterson’s back-up.
The Jaguars desperately need to boost their running game. Last year’s rankings:
*78.8 rushing yards per game – 31st in the NFL (ahead of only Atlanta).
*378 attempts – 28th (ahead of only Miami, Cleveland, Dallas and Atlanta).
*3.1 yards per carry – 31st (ahead of only Baltimore).
*Seven rushing touchdowns – 28th.
With Gerhart, the Jaguars feel they have a back that can stay on his feet after the first defender hits him and also stay fresh for the entire season. Throw in his ability to play third down and catch passes (77 career catches) and he figures to be a solid addition.
But how much work will he get?
The Jaguars have floated out 12-15 carries a game for Gerhart.
Earlier this off-season, offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said: “The league has turned into one that there wasn’t a one player who averaged 20 carries per game last year – no running back had 320 carries last year. [Philadelphia’s] LeSean McCoy was closest with 314. So you’re not looking for that workhorse back per se that can handle 20-25 carries every game for 16 weeks. It doesn’t happen.”
Since five backs reached 320 carries in 2010, only three backs have done so: Jones-Drew (343 in 2011), Peterson (348 in 2012) and Alfred Morris (335 in 2012).
If the Jaguars are in more games, that will mean more rushing attempts, but look for Gerhart to be in that 12-15 range (with a couple outlier games) and have roles for Jordan Todman and Denard Robinson.

Ryan O' Halloren elmélkedései a '14es Jaguars szezonról - feljavulhat-e idén a pass rushunk? 1. Should there be optimism the Jaguars’ pass rush will be improved this year?Remélem összejön az a 40 sack.
Absolutely and for two reasons: It can’t sink any further down the NFL rankings and the players rushing the quarterback are better than in years past.
The Jaguars have finished last or tied for last in sacks three times in the last five years:
2013: Tied for last (31 sacks).
2012: Last (20).
2011: Tied for 25th (31).
2010: Tied for 30th (26).
2009: Last (14).
2008: Tied for 20th (29).
The Jaguars used the first week of free agency addressing the pass rush.
On March 12, they signed 26-year old linebacker Dekoda Watson, who had only three sacks in 60 games for Tampa Bay but intrigued the Jaguars’ coaches with his pass-rushing skills. He’ll be in a position as the new Otto (outside) linebacker to pass-rush and could also be used as a Leo defensive end on third down.
A day later, the Jaguars signed 32-year old defensive end Chris Clemons, who brings 130 games of experience (and 58 sacks) to the defense. He’ll replace Jason Babin, who was released last month.
Those two additions combined with the projected improvement by Andre Branch (five sacks in the last seven games) and potential of rookie Chris Smith is reason for optimism. Defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks is also a decent interior pass rusher.
But the Jaguars need to put themselves into pass-rushing situations.
The defense needs to stop the run better – they ranked 29th in yards allowed per game (131.8). Opponents had 29 “explosive” rushes (12 or more yards) and had 32 drives of at least 10 plays. The addition of defensive end Red Bryant should help that area.
And the offense, of course, needs to score more points in general and first-half points in particular. The Jaguars failed to score more than 10 first-half points in 10 games. Getting a lead equals pass-rushing opportunities.
So what’s the over-under on Jaguars sacks this year?
The Jaguars went 4-4 in last year’s second half and had 20 sacks in those eight games. Over a full season, that is 40 so that’s my number.

In battle for roster spot, safety Sherrod Martin has experience on his sideNem esélytelen a dolog, hisz Prosinski és Loston nem éppen az a leküzdhetetlenen konkurencia kategória.
Jaguars safeties Johnathan Cyprien, Josh Evans, Winston Guy and Chris Prosinski have a combined total of 37 starts in their careers.
Safety Sherrod Martin has started 36. That experience is Martin’s ticket to making the team.
Martin, 29, will be one of the most intriguing players to watch when training camp opens July 24. The Jaguars signed him on Dec. 30, the day after last season ended.
Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell has liked Martin’s abilities for years. While Caldwell worked in Atlanta’s front office, the Falcons narrowed their choices to Martin and safety William Moore with the 55th overall pick in the 2009 draft. Atlanta chose Moore, who has become a Pro Bowl player.
Carolina took Martin four picks later, and the Falcons faced him twice a season.
Caldwell took no risk in signing Martin to a one-year, $780,000 contract with no guaranteed money.
Martin’s story is reminiscent of Jaguars cornerback Will Blackmon. Like Blackmon, Martin was out of the league for an entire season recovering from a serious knee injury.
Blackmon has triumphed with the Jaguars, enjoying a productive season last year and positioning himself as a safe bet to make the 53-man roster this fall.
Martin, 6 feet 1 and 200 pounds, could do the same.
Martin recorded 199 tackles with seven interceptions, four forced fumbles and 20 passes defended in his four years with the Panthers. Playing in the final year of his rookie contract, Martin tore ligaments in his right knee against Kansas City and was placed on injured reserve on Dec. 4, 2012. He was three months away from free agency. More than a year passed from the time of his injury until he had another chance in the NFL.
“It was a blessing to get the opportunity to perform,” Martin said. “It was way too long an offseason last year watching everything from the couch. I spent a lot of time in the gym with a therapist working out trying to prepare myself.”
Martin’s knee is at full strength, and he competed in the Jaguars’ offseason program until a groin injury kept him out of the final four practices. He’s expected to be fully healthy by the start of camp.
The Jaguars were able to find a gem in Blackmon and are hoping to harness the same hunger in Martin. He could give the Jaguars some valuable experience as a reserve. Last season, the Jaguars had three starting safeties — Dwight Lowery, Cyprien and Evans — miss at least one game with an injury.
“He’s very hard-working, internally driven and very grateful for this opportunity,” Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said. “He performs like he’s not going to miss this. Any time you have guys like that on the team, it’s good. His experience really adds to the locker room.”

Overrated: G Zane Beadles -- He's a solid player, but was he worth all that money? He was the weak link on the Broncos' line last season. I get he's an upgrade in Jacksonville, but that's a lot of money to pay for that.
Underrated: DT Sen'Derrick Marks -- He played way too many plays (946) last season, and he wore down at times. But he was really good when he was fresh. They need to cut down on his snaps this season.
