The X-receiver, the split end

The wide receiver position is generally referred to by letters, in the sense of X, Y and Z on a play. Most people however have no idea what these mean. Typically for a team, the X-receiver is the go-to guy, the No. 1 receiver. The X-receiver is the "split end", the receiver lined up the widest on the offense. He's on the line of scrimmage and does not go in motion. This means that the X-receiver is going to need to be someone who can not only run the full route tree in an offense, but also someone who can beat press coverage and not get jammed at the line of scrimmage. He needs to essentially be a "do everything" receiver, having the ability to get deep, get separation, make contested catches and beat press coverage.

Of the receivers on the roster, second-round pick Allen Robinson would seem to fit this profile the best.

The Z-receiver, the flanker

Opposite the X-receiver in a typical formation is the Z-receiver, or what's commonly referred to as the "flanker". This is the wide receiver you typically see go in motion before the snap. This is also typically the wide receiver that is off the line of scrimmage, which enables the tight end to be an eligible receiver. Z-receivers do not typically face press coverage as much as the X-receiver and generally are smaller, quicker fast players.

Of the receivers on the roster, second-round pick Marqise Lee and veteran Cecil Shorts III would seem to be the best fits at the flanker position.

Mondjuk WR poszton nincsenek nagy needjeink, szóval hacsak nincs nagy sérüléshullám a poszton, úgyis csak camp body lenne. Caldwell meghívása (mint veterán belső falember) számomra izgalmasabb. Rosszul emlékszem, vagy ő tényleg egész jó volt a Texansban? Mondjuk akkor érdekes, hogy miért nem tavaly volt csapata, miután a Bills kirakta a végső kerethirdetésnél.

Loston was the most surprising prospect to be on the list of undrafted players. Before the draft, three scouts said Loston would not be overdrafted if he were picked in the third round. He was the highest-rated safety in the country coming out of high school, and he played well in college.

"Hard to figure why he fell," one front-office man said. "He is a little stiff and straight-line, and he gets some penalties. He had some injuries. But he is better than a lot of safeties in the league."

Ja, a 2012es "remek" draft class lett. Mondjuk belőlük kb. egyedül pont Angerrel kell majd hosszabbítani, sőt lehet csak ő marad a 6 emberből kereten idén ősszel (Branch trade/cut, Mike Harris szimplán cut)!

Mondjuk ennek előnye is van, mert pl simán meghosszabbítjuk most a szezon előtt Shortsot, ha akarjuk. Kifizethetjük a garantáltjának nagy részét idén, és akkor még több salary cap lenne jövőre.
Mondjuk nem mintha sok embert kéne meghosszabbítani jövőre (lejár a szerződése még Alualunak, Prosinskinek, Geno Hayesnek, Alan Ballnak, Roy Millernek, meg gondolom az idei ERFAinknak - Pasztor, Todman, Mike Brown)..Shortson kívül egyik sem fog túl sokban kerülni és szinte biztos, hogy max 2-3 embert tartunk meg belőlük.

Shorts kaphatna valami olyan szerződést, mint Laurent Robinson kapott 2012ben (5 év 32, 5 millió, ebből 14 garantált - hú de "jó" deal volt az is...), azzal a különbséggel, hogy a garantált lehetne nála 17-18 millió körül.

Az ő elvesztése még nincs kőbe vésve, de tény hogy nincs sok esély rá, hogy visszajöjjön. Mellesleg a 3 eddigi Khan első körös pickből ő volt a (valószinűleg) egyetlen választott, akit Khan kért (nem hiszem, hogy Gene egy DUIost draftolt volna 1/5n, még akkor is, ha Todd Monken az egykori WR edzőnk, és Blackmon OCje az Oklahoma Staten garanciát is vállalt érte.iktriad
