Could Jones-Drew’s career in Jacksonville be over later this week?

Three months ago, the consensus was the lack of a market for Jones-Drew would allow the Jaguars to keep him on their terms.

Over the last few weeks, though, and specifically at the NFL Scouting Combine, indications are the Jaguars will make a fair offer of two years that won’t be lucrative enough to keep Jones-Drew.

“With as many miles as he’s got on his wheels, somebody may give him a third year,” a league source said. “Maybe $4 million in the first year from somebody. But I don’t think he’ll get more than that.”

The move to sign Bryant falls in line with how Caldwell said he wanted to approach free agency — “aggressively modest” was how he termed it last month at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Modest: Following those big swings, it’s conceivable they could step back and let the market settle down before getting re-involved later in the week.

The Jaguars started the weekend with about $58 million in cap space so they could be active. And with craters throughout the roster, the Jaguars must be active.

Last year, the model was signing players in their mid-20s who weren’t full-time starters.

The first six signings were linebacker Geno Hayes (141 snaps the year before), Alan Ball (100), Justin Forsett (124), Roy Miller (503), Sen’Derrick Marks (691) and Mohammed Massaquoi (261). Hayes, Ball, Miller and Marks are projected 2014 starters.

This year, the model has been altered, as exhibited by the Bryant signing.

The Jaguars still want players in their 20s, but are willing to pay more for those who are no-doubt starters. Bryant has 60 career regular season/playoff starts.

Because Blackmon played under a minimum-salary, one-year veteran contract in 2013, his deal doesn’t expire until the start of the new league year (Tuesday) and thus, the rule states that he can’t sign a new deal until then.

Blackmon has been at EverBank Field throughout the off-season and made appearances on behalf of the team while living in the Jacksonville area. All signs point to him being back, but it won’t be official until Tuesday.

Blackmon signed his contract last August 28 with the Jaguars following his release from Seattle. He played 15 games and had career highs in starts (eight), tackles (40), pass break-ups (10) along with his first career interception.

With the Jaguars signing Red Bryant in free agency, what does that mean for the future of Tyson Alualu?

The Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to a four-year deal with free agent defensive lineman Red Bryant on Saturday, a move that was an easy connection to make because of his past work with both Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley and defensive line coach Todd Wash.

With the move however, it's lead to a lot of people to ask what the future of Tyson Alualu is, as Bryant plays the same position and role in the Jaguars defensive scheme. Both play the five-technique defensive end role, which is primarily a run stopping position that sets the edge on the strong side of the defensive line.

Personally, I don't think Alualu will be released anytime soon and if it comes, will likely be in training camp. He's not due a roster bonus and his cap figure for 2014 is $4 million, but if he's released the team will still have to eat $3 million in dead money and only save $1 million on the cap. But then again, we still have actual free agency and the NFL draft ahead, so it's still possible, though I feel is unlikely.

Rather than saving $1 million, it would likely better serve the Jaguars to let the 26-year old defensive lineman finish out his rookie contract and rotate with Bryant on the field, allowing both to stay more fresh on game day. Alualu played the third most overall snaps on the defensive line last season and it wasn't really until later on in the year that he began to get a breather in games. Coincidentally, Alualu had a better second half of the season than he did early on.

While Bryant and Alualu are defensive ends, neither is going to bring much of a pass rush nor would they be expected to in the current defensive scheme.

Az a baj centerposzton, hogy totál tapasztalatlan játékosok vannak a keretben nálunk. Brewster emellé még alulméretezett is(pedig ő 4 évig center volt az Ohio Stateben), Stankiewitch és Patrick Lewis zöldfülűek, McClendon meg inkább inkább G, mint C.
Ha nem rookie kezdő QBnk lesz, akkor Weston Richburgöt szeretném, ha draftolnánk a 3. körben.
De ha netán rookie QBvel vágunk neki az évnek, akkor kellene valami veterán cebter elé. Mondjuk szerintem hozunk majd valakit a De la Puente, Satele, Wendell 3asból free agencyben.

A breakdown of the Jaguars’ situation:

■ Strong safety. The Jaguars were encouraged by Johnathan Cyprien’s progress during the second half of his rookie year. The second-round pick didn’t miss a snap in the 15 games he played and was second on the team with 98 tackles. An offseason working with defensive backs coach DeWayne Walker should allow for more strides.

■ Starting cornerbacks. Alan Ball was an under-the-radar signing and he proved to be decent, leading the Jaguars with 14 pass break-ups to go with 47 tackles and two interceptions. He provided great leadership in the meeting room as well. Dwayne Gratz was limited by two ankle injuries but 32 tackle and two interceptions.

■ Nickel corner. The Jaguars used Mike Harris early in the year and then Blackmon later in the year at the inside spot.

■ Free safety. The Jaguars went through three starters — Dwight Lowery (first three games), Josh Evans (11 games) and Guy (two). Lowery is long gone and the in-house opinion is they feel good enough about Evans and Guy to move forward with them via training camp competition.

If the Jaguars do anything in the secondary, it is likely to come in the draft.

Per Marvez, Henne's deal can max out at $15 million if he takes 75 percent of the Jaguars offensive snaps and the team makes the playoffs in 2014 and 2015.

It breaks down like this:

2014 base salary ?, $1.5 million signing bonus, $3 million roster bonus:
25 percent of snaps: +$250,000
45 percent of snaps: +$500,000
65 percent of snaps: +$1 million
75 percent of snaps and 8 wins: +$1.25 million
75 percent of snaps and 10 wins: +$2 million
75 percent of snaps and playoffs: $2.5 million

2015 base salary of $3.5 million:
65 percent of snaps and 8 wins: +$500,000
65 percent of snaps and 10 wins: +$1 million
65 percent of snaps and playoffs: +$2 million

So, if Chad Henne starts 75 percent of the games in 2014 and 65 percent of the games in 2015 and the Jaguars make the playoffs each season, his deal will increase to $13.5 million, plus the $1.5 million signing bonus for a total of $15 million, roughly, if my math is correct.

Caldwell:

"Henne was really committed to Jacksonville and he has a good comfort level here and likes the community and likes the city and wanted to be a part of this as we grow," Caldwell said.
