kár érte. azért jó eljátszani a gondolattal.

"So I know there have been and will continue to be debates on whether Baylor/TCU deserved to be in the playoff or not. But ultimately, that doesn't matter - they aren't in, and that's not gonna change. So the question becomes, where do they go from here? They could just complain a bit, finish grumbling and stand pat, hope that either Texas and/or Oklahoma get out of their funks (because let's face it, you can't ignore the factor Ohio State's name played) or have one team run away with the conference decisively next year and hope that next time will be different. However, given how this situation played out, you've got to think changes will be on the horizon for the conference. Especially in regards to a conference championship game.

I mean, look at the Pac-12. Oregon lost to Arizona earlier this year, just as TCU lost to Baylor earlier this year. The difference? Oregon played Arizona again in a conference championship at the end of the year and won decisively, and absolutely no one's questioning whether Oregon deserves to be in or not. I know why the Big XII did it the way they did - even though everybody with half a brain realizes that head-to-head ought to be the first tiebreaker, TCU was 'in' the playoff according to the earlier rankings, Baylor wasn't, and so to preserve the chance TCU kept their place, there was all this 'co-champion' bollocks so that TCU could be recognized as a conference 'champion' against all the rest. End result - they both got shut out, and the conference looks like absolute fools.

So to get to a championship game, the NCAA has ruled that you have to have 12 teams for a conference championship. And so back we go to that ever ignominious specter of conference realignment so that the Big XII can get back to 12 (at the very least). Pretty much every other Power 5 conference has locked in every member through various contracts, so you've got to look outside those conferences for new members. So who do we have? Out of all the names I've heard for possible prospects, here are the ones that make the most sense (to me):

BYU - From my perspective, the most obvious choice - they went independent but now realize that they don't have any pull without a conference alignment and are pretty much begging for someone to take them in. They've got a good history and a decent 'market' with Salt Lake City. They're also not 'just' a football school, having had some college basketball success as well. The religious thing isn't that big of a deal with the Big XII either - I mean, look at Baylor. The biggest problem they have is they're not exactly close to any of the other members, and I have a feeling that the conference wants to avoid another West Virginia situation where they have one member out in the middle of nowhere compared to the others - especially one on the other side of the country to the outlier they already have.

Cincinnati - The other 'obvious' choice - at least to me. They've twice been to BCS bowls and have a pretty good football record as of late, and they've also got a great basketball program. They're in a pretty good market, in a relatively strong football recruiting state. They also offer the opportunity of giving West Virginia a natural in-conference rival to counteract the whole 'island' problem mentioned earlier. Really, the only downside they have is that they don't otherwise make a pair with any other school the conference could bring in.

Boise State - Their biggest advantage is pretty simple - they're pretty much unquestionably the most successful team not currently within a Power 5 conference. If the question was only football resume, they'd be an obvious pick. The problem is, well... everything else. Boise is close to absolutely nowhere, they bring no market and they're not known for pretty much anything other than football and the blue turf. Still, there's no other school with a football profile like theirs, so you can't entirely rule them out.

Central Florida - They're an up and coming team that would put the Big XII in two of the three biggest football states in the country, and in comparison to say, Boise, I think you'll have much less grumbling about having to travel to Orlando. They've been to a BCS game (beating the Big XII champ in the process), so despite not having much of a history, they wouldn't exactly come out of nowhere. But the problem still remains that they would again be on an 'island', given that there's no Big XII team anywhere near Florida, dictating a lot of travel for them.

Colorado State - They've got a spot in the Denver market and unless something changes, an annual game with another Power 5 team in the Rocky Mountain Showdown with Colorado. In comparison to pretty much every other team listed, Fort Collins is within reasonable distance to the Big XII 'heartland' - after all, CU was a Big XII member before they jumped ship. The only problem is that they don't really have any athletic history to speak of - sure, they had a pretty good year this year, but outside of that, what have they ever done?

I think those are the most sensible five - among the others I've heard, there's South Florida (almost entirely in conjunction with adding Central Florida), Memphis (because basketball, I guess? I don't see it, myself), and the other former SWC members - Houston, Rice and SMU. The problem I see with those last three is that they really don't bring anything that the conference doesn't already have (aside from membership numbers). If you wanna go really out there, I suppose you could look at some of the other, further MWC members (UNLV? San Diego or Fresno St.?) or maybe even something like Northern Illinois and hope to make some sort of minor dent in the Chicago area.

As far as my own thoughts - I'm gonna say go big and try and 'connect' all the dots together - bring in Cincy to help out with West Virginia, then get a western trio in BYU, Colorado State and Boise State. Then split up the conference like so:

"Midwest":
Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Cincinnati, West Virginia

"Southwest":
Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Colorado State, BYU, Boise State

Then for conference scheduling, have the six divisional games, one set cross-divisional game and two more rotating cross-divisional games. As conceited as this is gonna sound coming from a Texas fan, the only cross-divisional game that would have to be set in stone for this scenario is Texas-Oklahoma - the others are pretty much whatever. The only thing I would set, however, is having the 'Great Plains' teams (Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State) be set up with the 'Western' teams (BYU, Colorado State, Boise State) so as to minimize the cross-country travel. Something like this:

Texas-Oklahoma
Texas Tech-Oklahoma State
Baylor-West Virginia
TCU-Cincinnati
Boise State-Kansas State
BYU-Kansas
Colorado State-Iowa State

And voila. And yeah, that set up would have potential for a second Red River game in a year for a conference championship should UT and OU start reaching dominance once again - but at the very least Texas-Oklahoma is always in early October, so you wouldn't have them playing each other near back to back weeks like other notable rivalry games.

Anyways, those are my thoughts on the subject. Other opinions on what the Big XII should do with the situation at hand?"

- 2013 Pittsburgh Steelers running game: 86,4 yard/game, 27th in the league (3,5 y/c, 29th).
- 2013, Steelers@Patriots 31-55, 610 total yards by the Patriots. More points and more yards than any team ever had amassed against a Steelers franchise in business now for 81 NFL seasons.

"Bowlsby: "Adding two schools for the purpose of getting to 12 (for a championship game) would be among the poorest reasons to do it."

itt meg egy fórum hozzászóló véleménye:
"BYU is the best value add, a steal actually and UCF has best growth potential, being the biggest school in the country with a young alumni base and the Orlando TV market is attractive.
BYU is a generic brand Notre Dame, with good basketball, good football, national relevance, strong alumni base and history. They are a must get. UCF is a gamble, but college football is trending southeast, and it wouldn’t hurt for the Big 12 to make a splash in the region.
Cincy is a good basketball school."

nem hiába, épp tegnap nyilatkozott ez ügyben a Texas DC, Vance Bedford 😊

"Absolutely, 100% NO! We're the University of Texas.

I mean, if a uniform is going to make you a player - I think when we wear our Whites, it's as pretty as any uniform out there.

When the University of Texas walks out there, with that logo and that uniform, you know who they are. If you look at USC's uniforms, you know who they are. If you look at Notre Dame, you know who they are.

It's nothing personal. I just don't need all that stuff. I'm just an old school guy. I'm not a young guy that needs all that stuff to say, 'Yeah, this is who I am.'

Give me the nice, clean-cut stuff and let's go play football."
