Íme Halloren és Carlyon FA kivánságlistja a védelmi oldalon:

Greg Hardy

Team: Carolina.

Position: Defensive end.

Age (on Sept. 1): 27.

The case for signing Hardy: The long-term reward outweighs the short-term headache.

Hardy’s legal problems involving a domestic dispute are over. The NFL could still suspend Hardy for part of the 2015 season, a situation that should become clearer in the coming days. He already missed the final 15 games, as well as Carolina’s two playoff games, last season.

Still, even if Hardy were to miss the first two to four games of the 2015 season, he’s too young and proven not to pursue. The Panthers thought enough of Hardy to franchise him heading into 2014, paying him $13.1 million.

Hardy has recorded 27 sacks in his last 32 games. You simply don’t see production like that in a player this young who then becomes available. Hardy has been durable in the NFL, missing two games in his first four years combined before the 2014 season.

Hardy would be the ideal Leo in coach Gus Bradley’s scheme. Hardy is 6-foot-4 and weighs 275 pounds with the length (34-inch arms) the Jaguars covet.

The Jaguars’ pass rush was the strength of last season’s lousy team, but it’s also misleading. While the Jaguars recorded 45 sacks, they didn’t consistently generate pressure.

Defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks led the Jaguars with 8.5 sacks last season but is recovering from a torn ACL sustained in the regular-season finale. Chris Clemons (6-3, 254) registered eight sacks from the Leo spot but turns 34 in October.

The Jaguars could dramatically reshape their pass rush by adding Hardy. The Leo position would be settled for years to come.

Hays Carlyon

Devin McCourty

Team: New England.

Position: Free safety.

Age (on Sept. 1): 28.

The case for signing McCourty: The Jaguars’ secondary needs a lynchpin. They feel they have a strong safety (Johnathan Cyprien). They feel they have an emerging corner (Demetrius McCray). And they feel they have a standout-in-the-making at the other corner spot (Aaron Colvin).

But the group, which also includes likely No. 3 cornerback Dwayne Gratz and No. 3 safety Josh Evans, needs to be rounded out by a free safety who will allow the Jaguars to play their preferred single-high look, can range from sideline to sideline, be a sure open-field tackler, produce turnovers and be the vocal leader on and off the field.

McCourty would be That Guy.

Having completed his fifth year in the league (all with New England), McCourty had 67 tackles and two interceptions in the 2014 regular season. He moved from cornerback to safety midway through the 2012 season and solidified the Patriots’ secondary.

McCourty is renowned for his coverage ability when called upon and for making big plays — 17 interceptions and seven forced fumbles in 77 career games (all starts). And he’s durable — he’s missed only three games in five years.

McCourty may not hit the open market if he and the Patriots can agree to a new deal before Tuesday. But if he does, the Jaguars will join Philadelphia, Chicago and Tennessee in a big-money pursuit. McCourty’s brother, Jason, plays for the Titans.

The Jaguars should be prepared to make Devin McCourty among the highest-paid safeties in the game. The floor may be a five-year, $45 million contract that would leave him behind only New Orleans’ Jairus Byrd ($10.6 million average) and San Diego’s Eric Weddle ($10.3 million average).

Ndamukong Suh

Team: Detroit.

Position: Defensive tackle.

Age (on Sept. 1): 28.

The case for signing Suh: He’s arguably the best defensive free agent since legendary end Reggie White signed with Green Bay 22 years ago.

Suh is a rare treasure because he’s just hitting his prime and is already an elite player. The 6-4, 307-pound Suh simply wrecks opposing interior offensive lines and forces quarterbacks to keep an eye on the rush.

Suh is a three-time first-team All-Pro in five seasons, which includes 36 sacks. He recorded 53 tackles (21 for a loss) with 8.5 sacks last season. That doesn’t count his two sacks against Dallas in a playoff loss.

Detroit finished second in total defense and was first against the run this past season. The Jaguars were 27th in the league at stopping the run last season.

Suh is also durable, never missing a game because of an injury. He did get suspended for two games in 2011 for stomping on a Packers lineman. Good, the Jaguars need some nastiness.

Landing Suh will mean making him the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. That means eclipsing the deal Houston gave J.J. Watt: six years for $100,005,425 ($16.6 million a year) with $51,876,000 guaranteed.

The Jaguars should offer Suh a six-year deal worth at least $105 million ($17.5 million a year) with $55 million guaranteed. The Jaguars could make this deal and still have over $40 million in cap space.

Plus, who wouldn’t love the “Suhval” chants at EverBank Field when Suh blows up a play?

Hays Carlyon

Jason Worilds

Team: Pittsburgh.

Position: Outside linebacker

Age (on Sept. 1): 27.

The case for signing Worilds: For as much talk about the Jaguars’ improved sack total last year (45, up from 31 in 2013), there should be an emphasis on solidifying the Leo spot, not only for the present but the future.

Clemons is 33 and Andre Branch has only 10 sacks in 38 career games.

Enter Worilds.

He’s set to hit the open market after playing for Pittsburgh last year on the transition tag ($9.754 million).

He would have cost the Steelers more than $11 million if they used the tag on him again this year.

Unlike most of the other Jaguars’ free agent candidates, they need to do a projection on Worilds, which is always a gamble when paying the kind of money he’ll command.

A 3-4 outside linebacker for the Steelers, Worilds (6-2, 240 pounds) would be a 4-3 defensive end for the Jaguars.

He has 25.5 sacks in 73 games, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds coming out of Virginia Tech and is equal parts able to set the edge (he had 28 run-game tackles last year) and use his athleticism to get around offensive tackles (7.5 sacks, tied for the team lead).

Worilds played 998 snaps for the Steelers last year so he’s comfortable being an every-down player, although his playing time would likely decrease if used in the Jaguars’ defensive line rotation.

One projection for Worilds could be a four-year, $30 million contract with $18 million guaranteed.

Nate Allen

Team: Philadelphia.

Position: Safety.

Age (on Sept. 1): 27.

The case for signing Allen: If the Jaguars come up empty on McCourty, the need for a free safety would still need to be addressed, and it doesn’t appear if the draft will be the best place to find one. Allen has started 69 of 74 career games and would instantly become the most experienced player in the Jaguars’ starting secondary.

Allen has a nose for the football — 10 interceptions, 31 pass breakups and three fumble recoveries in his career.

Last year for the Eagles, Allen played 1,076 or 1,158 snaps (93 percent) and had 62 tackles and four interceptions.

Watching the Week 3 Redskins-Eagles game, Allen can be used in multiple ways — single-high safety, cover 2, in the box for run support and covering the tight end or slot receiver.

After McCourty, the free safety market dwindles. It consists of Allen, Denver’s Rahim Moore and St. Louis’ Rodney McLeod. A red flag about Allen came last month when he was detained (but ultimately not charged) after a 16-year old girl accused him of indecent exposure. Police concluded there was not enough evidence to charge Allen after the accuser changed her story multiple times.

If the Jaguars are interested in Allen, a good point could a four-year, $18 million contract ($4.5 million average). He made $3 million last year.

Amikor nemrég azt fejtegettem, hogy mi a szarért jönne ide McCourty, ameddig Brady játszik ,addig ott Superbowl esélyes csapatban lehet. Na erre azt kaptam válaszként többektől, hogy ez hülyeség, a pénzre mennek, nem nyerni akarnak.

Most akkor Devin viszont nyerni akar, mert a tesó példáján megtanulta, hogy a pénz nem boldogít? Családi ebédnél kicikizik?

Valahogy nekem is van egy olyan balsejtelmem, hogy Cobb vagy Julius Thomas nem akarna megszakadni Jacksonville-ben. Egyszerűen nem tudnak alkalmazkodni a tényhez, hogy a Jaguars nem az aranygyűrűre hajt, hanem csak szeretne valahogy pozitív mérleg közelébe kerülni. Túlfizetett vakációzókat csinálna belőlük a Jags. The free agent signing period opens Tuesday, and the Jaguars — with more than $60 million in salary cap space — are well-positioned to improve their roster at myriad positions.
Who should the Jaguars pursue and at what price?

Times-Union Jaguars beat writers Hays Carlyon and Ryan O’Halloran make the case for the signing five offensive players (the case for signing five defensive free agents will be in Thursday’s edition):

RANDALL COBB

Team: Green Bay.

Position: Receiver.

Age (on Sept. 1): 25.

The case for signing Cobb: The Jaguars need playmakers in general and in the passing game in particular. For the Packers last year, Cobb had 91 catches for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. By comparison, the Jaguars didn’t have anybody with more than 53 catches, 700 yards or six touchdowns.

The Jaguars have second-year players Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns, but they need a veteran presence that can equal parts lead and draw attention from defenses.

Cobb was the NFL’s best slot receiver last year. Watching Cobb’s two best 2014 regular-season games on tape (10 catches against Philadelphia and 11 against Tampa Bay) showed that he is a versatile player, capable of stressing defenses all over the field.

On the 21 catches, Cobb lined up slot right (nine times), slot left (seven), wide left and wide right (two apiece) and running back (one). He caught passes in both flats and on a bubble screen, a quick out, a shallow cross, a deep post and a corner. He had receptions of 24, nine, 15, 30, 22 and 11 yards over the middle, where the Jaguars didn’t have much production last year.

The Jaguars will face competition for Cobb (Green Bay, Oakland and Kansas City). As of Tuesday, nine receivers had contracts averaging more than $10 million, and the most recent free agents on that list are Tampa Bay’s Vincent Jackson and Miami’s Mike Wallace.

The Jaguars will have to overpay — let’s go with a five-year, $56 million contract ($11.2 million average) that would catapult Cobb into the top half-dozen highest-paid receivers in pro football. A possible plus is Cobb and coach Gus Bradley are both represented by agent Jimmy Sexton.

Ryan O’Halloran

BRYAN BULAGA

Team: Green Bay.

Position: Right offensive tackle.

Age (on Sept. 1): 26.

The case for signing Bulaga: Through his two-year tenure, Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell has been generally against giving out contracts to players who have an injury history. The Jaguars did it last year with defensive end Chris Clemons, but convincing Bulaga to leave Green Bay will take much more than the $4.475 million guaranteed Clemons got last year.

Bulaga missed the second half of 2012 with a fractured hip and all of 2013 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. But he rebounded last year to play 15 games, missing one week because of a knee injury.

Per the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Bulaga allowed four sacks last year. He had seven penalties.

The Jaguars’ right tackle position has been a black hole for many years. In 2014, the starting group consisted of Austin Pasztor (injured in camp), Cam Bradfield (cut after Week 2), Sam Young (fill-in for the still-recovering Pasztor), Pasztor and Young (after Pazstor was hurt again).

The best way for the Jaguars to improve their offensive line is by signing Bulaga and then moving Pasztor back to guard (where he finished 2012 with the Jaguars), where he could serve as a depth option.

The Jaguars have the salary cap space — and desperation — to make Bulaga the game’s highest-paid right tackle. Six players currently have contracts averaging at least $6 million per year, led by Indianapolis’ Gosder Cherlius ($7 million).

Using the Cherlius deal as a floor, the Jaguars should offer Bulaga a six-year, $48 million contract ($8 million average), including $17 million guaranteed.

Ryan O’Halloran

JEREMY MACLIN

Team: Philadelphia.

Position: Receiver.

Age (on Sept. 1): 27.

The case for signing Maclin: Maclin overcame a knee injury that cost him all of 2013 by posting career numbers last year. The 6-foot, 198-pound Maclin caught 85 passes for 1,318 yards (a 15.5-yard average) and 10 touchdowns. The Jaguars need an explosive receiver. Maclin caught 21 passes of at least 20 yards and had seven of at least 40 yards last season.

While other free agents might have enjoyed brilliant quarterback play, Maclin has largely dealt with Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez. Still, Maclin has caught 343 passes in his career for 4,771 yards (a 13.9 average) with 36 touchdowns.

Maclin’s big-play ability is his best attribute. In his career, he averages a catch of at least 20 yards on every 4.7 receptions. He averages a gain of at least 40 yards on every 17.1 catches.

The Jaguars have little money committed to their top three receivers. Entering their second seasons, Lee, Robinson and Hurns roughly count for a combined 2015 cap figure of $2.5 million.

The Jaguars need a true No. 1 receiver to shoulder the load while the talented trio continues to develop.

The low salary cost of the trio enables the Jaguars to spend big on a receiver. The Jaguars should offer Maclin a four-year deal worth $44 million with $20 million guaranteed. That deal would better the ones held by Victor Cruz, Pierre Garcon, Antonio Brown and Jordy Nelson, making Maclin close to a top-five paid receiver.

Hays Carlyon

DEMARCO MURRAY

Team: Dallas.

Position: Running back.

Age (on Sept. 1): 27.

The case for signing Murray: Murray’s 2014 season was spectacular (1,845 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns), leading the NFL by nearly 500 yards. He added 416 yards receiving.

The 6-foot, 217-pound Murray also proved he could hold up, playing 16 games for the first time in his career.

He logged 392 carries and 57 receptions.

Dallas’ offense relied on Murray to keep it in good down-and-distance situations, and he responded by doing most of his damage on first down.

He also broke 15 runs of at least 20 yards and had three catches for at least 20 yards.

In 53 career games, Murray has averaged 108 yards of offense per contest (5,726 rushing, 1,200 receiving). His career average per carry is an impressive 4.8.

The Jaguars could take a significant amount of pressure off second-year quarterback Blake Bortles by adding Murray to the backfield. He should have three prime years left before he’ll likely start to wear down.

The Jaguars should offer Murray a front-loaded five-year, $47.5 million contract ($9.5 million a year on average) with $23 million guaranteed. That would make Murray the second-highest paid back in the league below Minnesota’s ridiculous contract for Adrian Peterson (six years, $86.3 million).

The case for signing Thomas: The Jaguars were last in scoring in 2014 and need players who can find the end zone. Over the last two seasons, Thomas has scored 24 touchdowns in the 27 combined games he’s played.

Bortles needs a security blanket he can develop with over the next few years. Thomas (6-5, 250 pounds) would give him that reliable target, especially in the red zone.

Peyton Manning gets credit for Thomas’ success, but look at the numbers. Thomas was limited or out in Denver’s last seven games battling an ankle injury. In that span, Manning threw 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Prior to Thomas’ injury, Manning threw 29 touchdowns and seven picks.

Thomas is four years younger than current starter Marcedes Lewis. The nine-year veteran has missed 13 games combined the last two seasons and has 27 touchdowns in his career.

The Jaguars can be aggressive with Thomas, because releasing Lewis would save the team $6.8 million on the salary cap. Lewis has an $8.2 million cap figure in 2015 and the Jaguars incur a $1.4 million cap hit by releasing him, according to spotrac.com.

The Jaguars should offer Thomas a contract slightly above what New Orleans gave Jimmy Graham at four years, $40.5 million with $21 million guaranteed. The overall value would be the league’s second-highest behind Rob Gronkowski (six years, $54 million). This deal would cost the Jaguars roughly a net of $3.3 million with the release of Lewis.
