BLAKE BORTLES

Bortles will play with the first-team offense for part of the first half and it could be his last opportunity to do so for several weeks or months. Impressive through two preseason games (18-of-28 passing, 277 yards), Bortles has been praised for his command of the offense, line of scrimmage presence and decision making. It will be interesting to see Bortles on the field at the same time as tight end Marcedes Lewis and receiver Marqise Lee.

JOSH EVANS

Evans had an offseason to forget (foot surgery, which set him back at the start of camp). But he intercepted a pass against Chicago last week and coach Gus Bradley said Evans is challenging for playing time at both the free and strong safety spots. Winston Guy (free) and Johnathan Cyprien (strong) are locked in as the starters, but another strong game and Evans could become a part of three-safety personnel packages.

CECIL SHORTS

Shorts, the Jaguars’ projected No. 1 receiver, was sidelined July 25-Aug. 16 because of a hamstring strain, but returned for practices on Sunday-Monday and Wednesday (he took Tuesday off). Shorts is expected to start but play limited snaps. Any action is good news for the Jaguars, who want Shorts at full speed when the season opens Sept. 7 at Philadelphia. The coaches have complimented Shorts’ “burst” in practice.

JEREMY HARRIS

Sidelined all of last year with a back injury, the 2013 seventh-round pick has made six tackles (tied for the team lead) through two games. The Jaguars’ top four corners are likely Dwayne Gratz, Alan Ball, Will Blackmon and Demetrius McCray. That leaves Harris competing with rookie Rashaad Reynolds among others for the likely fifth and final spot.

JACQUES MCCLENDON

Can McClendon succeed where Mike Brewster has to this point failed? Nothing has been accomplished at the Jaguars’ center position since training camp started. Brewster started the first two preseason games, but his stints have been low-lighted by two air-mailed shotgun snaps and a holding penalty. Now it’s McClendon’s turn. This doesn’t represent a Hail Mary on the Jaguars’ part (that would be going with rookie Luke Bowanko), but it’s darn close.

Otto linebacker: Dekoda Watson began practicing Sunday nearly two months after a second sports hernia surgery. But this job remains LaRoy Reynolds’ to lose and he hasn’t done anything to suggest he’s not up for the task.

WR Chad Bumphis: He has spent time on the practice squads in Denver, Miami and Jacksonville. He has never appeared in an NFL game. He has gotten a lot of reps because of the injuries at receiver and has made plays here and there.

RB Terrance Cobb: He's fifth on the depth chart and hasn't gotten much work. He's a shifty runner who catches the ball well and teams want at least one back on the practice squad.

DT DeAndre Coleman: The rookie from California is a run-stuffer whom the staff hopes will develop. Sometimes big guys don't clear the waiver process and there's a chance the Jags could lose him.

TE Marcel Jensen: Jensen really flashed during OTAs but has not made much of an impact once the pads came on. He's a raw talent and the Jaguars are intrigued with his size and there's hope he could eventually develop into Marcedes Lewis' eventual replacement.

S Craig Loston: He's got a real shot to make the 53-man roster depending on how many safeties the Jaguars want to keep.

CB Rashaad Reynolds: Reynolds also could make the 53-man roster, but he'll likely have to beat out Jeremy Harris for the final spot.

G Tyler Shatley: Drew Nowak has more experience, but he hasn't gotten noticeably better. Shatley should have more potential for growth. The Jaguars would like to keep at least one interior lineman on the practice squad.

QB Ricky Stanzi: Stanzi is still eligible for the practice squad despite the fact that he's entering his fourth season. The former fifth-round pick has never appeared in a game but has been active for nine.

WR Lamaar Thomas: The Jaguars could keep another offensive lineman, instead, but the fact that the receivers seem to be plagued by injuries makes him a valuable asset because he knows the offense.

LB Marcus Whitfield: He can play the Jaguars' new OTTO position, which makes him a valuable insurance policy in case Dekoda Watson or LaRoy Reynolds get hurt.

5. Johnathan Cyprien, S, Jacksonville Jaguars. Jaguars coach Gus Bradley was around top safeties when he worked with Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor in Seattle. Cyprien finished his 2013 rookie season on an upswing, and should benefit from personnel upgrades to the front seven.

21. Toby Gerhart, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars. Gerhart averaged 7.9 yards per carry on his 36 attempts last season, and his workload figures to increase after the Jaguars signed him to a deal averaging $3.5 million annually. Gerhart has never rushed for more than 531 yards in a season, and he has less than that during his past two seasons combined.

25. Sen'Derrick Marks, DT, Jacksonville Jaguars. Marks has made high-impact plays this preseason. Pro Football Focus credited him with one QB hit, two hurries, one forced fumble and one run stop during an 11-snap appearance in the preseason opener.

38. Luke Joeckel, T, Jacksonville Jaguars. Joeckel is back from the season-ending ankle injury that forced him to miss 11 games last season, after Jacksonville made him the second pick in the 2013 draft. A breakout season for him would qualify as becoming a solid starter over the course of a full season.

Bradley elmondása szerint Bortles már bejön a 2. negyedben, hogy a kezdőkkel együtt játsszon. Ez picit gyanús nekem. A 3. premeccsen mindig az volt a szokás, hogy a kezdő QB bent van a 3 negyed közepéig-végéig. Lehet Blake tényleg elnyerheti a kezdő QB posztot Detroitban egy újabb jó játékkal?

C poszton Bradley szerint McClendon, Brewster éss Bowanko kap snapet Detroitban. Úgy tűnik McClendon BORZALMAS játéka a Bears ellen RGben végleg Linder javára döntötte el azt a posztot. McClendon és Brewster meg szerintem 1 helyéért csatázik, mert tuti nem Bowankot fogjuk kivágni keret szűkítéskor... Sanszos, hogy a Meester utódnak tartott Brewster nem lesz rosteren szeptember első hetében nálunk... Na ilyen siralmas a C poszt mostanság....

Ma pihent Poz, Shorts, Miller, Roy Miller és Hayer.

Bowanko visszatért edzeni, ha limitáltan is. Talán játszhat Detroitban.

Limitáltan edzetett Allen Robinson is, ő ugyan nem játszik a Lions ellen (pedig ottani srác..), de Gus valószínűleg elviszi őt is.

Megsérült viszont Jamell Fleming. Az Achilles-ínjával vannak próblémái, de nem komolyabb.

Ha már CBk - Gus nagyon méltatta Jeremy Harris és Gratzt, hogy milyen sokat fejődtek az utóbbi napokban. Ez jó Harrisnek, aki nagy csatában lehet Rashaad Reynoldssal az utolsó CB helyért. A vesztes megy a practice squadba(Harris, mivel tavaly IRen volt, odakerülhet ha a front office mégis Reynolds mellett dönt), amely 8ról 10 fősre bővül a liga tervei szerint. 2vel több játékost tudunk keretközelben tartani.

Nocsak, nocsak Jedd Fisch szerint még nincs kőbe vésve a kezdő QB neve:

“This fan base saw a quarterback get thrown to the wolves,” offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch told me, referring to Gabbert. “We don’t need to force it. We never thought when we drafted [Bortles] we were taking him to play now. But nothing is set in stone. We’re giving Blake every chance to make the decision super-hard for us.”

Kicsit röhögök, hogy Peter King szerint Bortles már nincs olyan messze, hogy kezdhessen nálunk:

Dekoda Watsont levettük a PUP listárol, és jelen pillanatban már együtt edz a többiekkel. Shorts is visszatért edzeni, valamint Poz is ott gyakorol a többiekkel, szóval a bicepsz sérülése tényleg csak apró probléma volt.
Tandon Doss pedig limitáltan ugyan, de elkezdett edzeni.

Viszont Fendi Onobunt le kellett hordággyal hozni, úgy tűnt a jobb térde sérült meg.

McClendon és nem Brewster gyakorol a kezdőkkel Cben, Linder pedig Rgben.

Ma nincs pads nélküli edzés van.

Quarterbacks (2): Chad Henne and Blake Bortles. The Jaguars want to keep three — and probably Ricky Stanzi, but the injury to right tackle Austin Pasztor creates the need for an extra offensive lineman.

Running backs (5): Toby Gerhart, Jordan Todman, Denard Robinson, Storm Johnson and Will Ta’ufo’ou. My view is Todman will start as the No. 2 tailback, but Robinson and Johnson will also have roles.

Tight ends (3): Marcedes Lewis, Clay Harbor and D.J. Tialavea. Tialavea has passed Marcel Jensen in the playing order, unless the Jaguars are trying to stash Jensen.

Receivers (6): Cecil Shorts, Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee, Allen Hurns, Mike Brown and Tandon Doss. In June, I had Doss out, but if his ankle heals in time, he takes Ace Sanders’ roster spot (suspension) and should get a chance to return punts.

Offensive line (9): Pasztor, Luke Joeckel, Zane Beadles, Mike Brewster, Brandon Linder, Cam Bradfield, Luke Bowanko, Josh Wells and Jacques McClendon. Pasztor’s broken hand creates a roster spot for Wells (who injured his shoulder on Thursday), at least for the first few weeks.

Defensive line (10): Red Bryant, Chris Clemons, Sen’Derrick Marks, Roy Miller, Ziggy Hood, Andre Branch, Tyson Alualu, Abry Jones, Ryan Davis and Chris Smith. Viewed as the deepest group entering training camp, that has been confirmed.

Linebackers (6): Paul Posluszny, Dekoda Watson, Geno Hayes, LaRoy Reynolds, Nate Stupar and Telvin Smith. Watson (groin) still hasn’t practiced so I think Reynolds will be the Week 1 starter at the Otto spot.

Defensive backs (9): Alan Ball, Dwayne Gratz, Johnathan Cyprien, Winston Guy, Will Blackmon, Demetrius McCray, Josh Evans, Sherrod Martin and Rashaad Reynolds. Two changes here — put Martin on instead of Chris Prosinski and Reynolds instead of Jeremy Harris.

Specialists (3): Josh Scobee, Bryan Anger and long snapper Carson Tinker.

Megjegyzések:
Jensen visszaesése eléggé sajnálatos, szerintem a 3. TE megint waiverről fog jönni, mint Harbor tavaly.
Josh Wellsnek örülnék, igaz nem biztos, hogy Stanzi cutja árán.
Rashaad Reynolds szépen halad az 53 felé. Közte és Jeremy Harris között dúl nagy csata az utolsó Cb posztért. Mondjuk a vesztest várja egy hely a P Squadban. Miközben Lostonról alig hallani. Úgy néz ki Prosinski és Sherrod Martin közt lesz csata az utolsó S roster spotért.

Well, guess what? Armchair quarterbacks aren’t the only ones feeling giddy about Bortles’ future. So are his teammates.

“We had some excitement on the sideline,” kicker Josh Scobee said of Thursday’s preseason game in Chicago. “I remember hitting Marcedes [Lewis, tight end] on the elbow after one pass and saying, ‘Did you just see that?’ Marcedes was excited about it, too.’’

That instance was on a second-and-1, during the Jaguars’ first series of the third quarter. Bortles eyed receiver Mike Brown on the right sideline and pump-faked, then came back left and dropped a perfect 29-yard strike to Kerry Taylor, who barely had a step on Bears cornerback Demontre Hurst.

It’s not like that is Bortles’ lone highlight, nor does he execute everything perfectly. But what we have seen this preseason — a first-round draft pick completing 18 of 28 passes for 277 yards — is compelling evidence that the Central Florida product might be ready to start sooner than the Jaguars’ brass initially projected.

“[Bortles] has made some big-boy throws,” Lewis said. “He’s impressing me every day. A guy as young as he is in his rookie year, he really understands what it takes to be good in this league.”

Just to be clear, players in the Jaguars’ locker room aren’t publicly second-guessing Bradley and Caldwell’s commitment to start Henne and let the quarterback process dictate when Bortles takes over. While praising Bortles, teammates are careful to not stray into the area of pushing for him to start.

“The one thing I’ve learned about Dave [Caldwell] and Gus [Bradley] is they really stick to their message,” said Scobee. “They’ve said all along that Chad is going to be the starter. That’s their decision to make, not ours.”

Still, you can see Scobee’s eyes light up when the conversation turns to Bortles’ future. And you know what’s interesting about that? Scobee, now in his 11th season, is the only Jaguars player who has been around long enough to observe most or the entire development of quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert, David Garrard and Byron Leftwich. He didn’t have the same look of early excitement about that trio.

“In the few months [Bortles] has been here, he’s shown the kind of things off the field that you want to see in a franchise quarterback, how he handles himself with teammates and the media,” Scobee said. “Hopefully, whenever his time is called, he’ll be ready to lead us.”

Mondjuk Scobee szerint így is, úgy is Henne kezdi a szezont, de az, hogy úgy tűnik a tapasztaltabb játékosok is úgy lelkesednek Blake iatt, mint mi , egyszerű szurkolók, az több, mint jó jel.

Azt ugye tudjuk, hogyha 3 LEO van egyszerre fent, az az úgynevezett "Lightening". formáció nálunk.
Nos a Bears ellen Bradleyék felküldtek 4 LEOt egyszerre - Clemonst és Branchet DEben, Ryan Davist és Chris Smitht meg DTben. Ez az úgynevezett "Cheetah" formáció. Mondjuk Clemons holdingja miatt a debütálást nem sikerült túl jól.

McClendon tényleg nem túl jó opció RGben. Mind a 2 Henne sacknél ő lett megverve. Van egy olyan érzésem, hogy a kerethirdetésekkor keletkező cuthullámból mint belső O-falembereket (és esetleg TEket) fogunk próbálni elsősorban lehalászni.
