Cameron Wake and the Miami Dolphins reached agreement on a 4-yr, $49 million extension that includes $20 million guaranteed.

The West Coast Offense, as developed by former San Francisco 49ers head coach Bill Walsh, is a finesse offense that utilizes a short passing game designed to control the ball.

In most conventional offenses, the idea is to run the ball to draw the safeties and linebackers in closer to the line of scrimmage, thus opening up passing lanes for a vertical attack. The West Coast Offense does just the opposite, using a quick, horizontal passing attack to set up the running game.

The West Coast Offense employs a variety of formations and pre-snap motions designed to confuse defenders. It also relies heavily on an ability to flood a defense with more receivers than they can handle. The quarterback often moves around more than in a conventional offense with designed roll outs and bootlegs that are tied in with the patterns being run by the receivers.

The objective of the West Coast Offense is to:

Spread the defense out horizontally as well as vertically, forcing slower linebackers into coverage.

Maintain possession of the football by utilizing a short passing attack almost as an extension of the running game.

Create mismatches with speed, size, or number of receivers.

Avoid tendencies that defenses can key on by throwing on any down and distance.

Ideal player qualities:

Quarterback - More of a focus is placed on decision-making and accuracy over arm strength in a West Coast system. A quarterback must be able to choose from multiple options and deliver the ball quickly. Mobility is also a big plus.

Running Back - In the West Coast Offense, running backs are generally used more as receivers out of the backfield than in other systems, so you need a guy with all-around skills. Good hands and route-running skills are a must.

Tight End - The tight end’s role is generally that of a possession receiver and blocker. The ability to catch the ball in traffic is a huge plus.

Wide Receiver - With the focus on a short passing attack, precision and timing are of the utmost importance, so receivers have to run precise routes. Straight-line speed isn’t as important as an ability to separate in traffic. And an ability to make plays after the catch can turn a good receiver into a superstar in this offense.

Offensive Linemen - You’re generally not trying to pound the ball on the ground in the West Coast Offense, so guys who can consistently blow defenders off the line aren’t necessary. Actually quicker, more mobile linemen are more ideal because of their ability to pull or get outside in a rolling pocket on plays designed to get the quarterback outside.

Miami Dolphins WRs Davone Bess and Brian Hartline are the only wide receivers on the roster that are guaranteed roster spots this season.

The NFL released dates for upcoming organized training activities and minicamps for the league's 32 teams.

The Miami Dolphins are hosting a rookie minicamp this weekend.

OTA dates for the Dolphins are as follows: May 22-24, May 29-31, June 11-14.

Minicamps are as follows: Friday, Saturday and Sunday for rookies only; June 19-21.

The NFL allows teams to host rookie minicamps during one of the first two weekends after the draft, and to conduct one manditory minicamp for veterans.

Clubs with new head coach, such as in the case of Miami and first-year coach Joe Philbin, are allowed an additional voluntary minicamp for veterans.

The Dolphins hosted a voluntary veteran minicamp last week.

The NFL is no restriction on the number of rookie minicamps.

Cunningham-ről kis ajánló. Nem lesz ez rossz szerintem.

Philbin azt nyilatkozta ugyebár hogy Te-ekre akar főleg építeni a játékot és abból most lesz opció. Szerintem 2 TE-s felállással fogunk nyomulni nonstop, valamint Bush-ra is nagyban számolnak mint elkapó és claynek is jó keze van.
Szóval egyelőre nem nagyon gondolkoznak alpha receiverben.

Valahol mintha azt olvastam volna, hogy Egnew WR-ből lett TE, és egyébként is elkapó TE. Széleken Bess, Hartline, Gates, középen Fasano, Egnew, Brown(?) na és személyes kedvencem Charles Clay. Screenekre Bush és Miller is jó, Thomassal meg mint faltörő kos számolnak. Lehet, hogy nincs alpha receiverünk de nekem úgy tűnik ez Philbinéket nem aggasztja annyira mint mondjuk minket vagy a sajtót. Célpontból pedig azért nincs hiány és bárki kinőheti magát Alpha kategóriába is akár, főleg ha a TE-ek végre középen komoly veszélyt jelentenek.

Viszont emlegetitek, hogy futni fogunk főleg. Szerintem pedig nem, de rookie QB mögé kell a jó futójáték.. Ha Miller nem marad bent tuti nem húzunk RB-t, csak hát ott ahol elvittük a hülyének is megérte.. és 3. körtől nem maradt bent olyan WR aki rookie-ként "alpha" lenne. Szerintem egy saints szerű 3as futójátékot fogunk látni egy west coast offensel ami rookie barát olyan értelemben, hogy nem atom pass heavy hanem balance beütésű.. aztán ahogy érlelődik a csapat majd alakul Moore, Garrard, Tannehill teljesítménye alapján is.

Ez alapvetően inkább Sherman-en és az aktuális QB-n fog múlni. 😉

Amúgy nekem annyiból nem tetszik a draftotok, hogy én nekiálltam volna WRt húzni Tannehillnek, mert jelenleg eléggé gyenge a dolog. Martin fasza pick, és steal is, de kinek fog dobálni Ryan?tenorx

A fal az fontosabb, mert így elvileg jobb lesz falunk, ergo könnyebb lesz dobálni 😉
Jelenleg nincs alpha Wr a keretben, de ez se mindig baj ... szerintem, ha az újak közül 2 rosterre kerül, mert jobb mint az eddigi akkor én elégedett leszek a corpsal 😀

Jaja, de ilyen csiszolatlan gyémánt megtalálását általában komoly QB-k szokták végezni.
A példáknál maradva Brees és Favre. Welker persze kivétel, ő remek volt itt is, a Patsben is.

1.) van pár olyan cikk, hogy cunninghamet várják, mint jövőbeli playmaker!(?)
egyébként mindig van ok bizalomra. példának okáért. donald driver, marques colston, wes welker (első kettő 7. körös, utolsó undrafted). driver 2 évig csak special team játékos volt...
előreláthatólag fuller és cunningham bekerül a végleges csapatba.

Martin teljesen jó pick. húzhattunk volna ott WR-t ha nincs RT, utána viszont tényleg érdekes a dolog. Fasano, Egnew, Les Brown trió elmegy a TE-k között, recievereknél meg gondolom Bess és Hartline kezd, Naanee helye is biztosnak tűnik (plusz sztem Cunningham és Fuller a rookiek közül) a maradék helyre meg Moore, Gates, Wallace versenyezhet. szar a helyzet, én is örültem volna Streeternek és/vagy Sanunak még, de idén sztem úgyis nagyrészt futni fogunk a Bush Miller Thomas trióval aztán majd meglátjuk közben mennyit tud Tanny. jövőre mondjuk egy Robert Woodsal megtámogathatnánk 😊
