An NFL assistant 13 of the past 14 years, Olson coordinated the Raiders' offense in 2013-14, and Tampa Bay's from 2008-11. In between, he served as coach Mike Mularkey's QBs coach in Jacksonville. It's not a flashy hire, but Olson did good work with Derek Carr and Terrelle Pryor in Oakland, and Josh Freeman in Tampa. The Jags obviously believe he'll be able to coax improvement out of sophomore QB Blake Bortles, who was wildly erratic as a rookie. Marrone was interviewed for at least three head coaching vacancies, and his name popped up in offensive coordinator searches as well. Bradley feels fortunate to have landed him as an assistant.

"I think that our whole mindset is we just want to put everything we can into our players to help them get better with no agenda," Bradley said. "It's not for any other reason than purely to help the players. That's what our players expect. I think that's what Doug Marrone's all about. He purely is, in talking to him, about wanting to help the offensive line get better. He's got great humility. There's thing that just in my conversations with him, I learned a great deal. The way our culture is, I think he's excited about what he can bring to it. I think he's a really good fit."

Szerintem Fisch hiánya nem fogja túl jól érinteni. Én visszaesést jósolok sajna nála idénre.

Alright, here we go. My thoughts on Greg Olson.
1. He's uber conservative. Far too conservative.
2. His goal when calling plays seemed to revolve around getting the ball out of Carr's hands fast. Didn't want Carr taking many hits/sacks
2b This was great, and helped keep Carr healthy. But at times it was really detrimental to the offense.
3. He gets too cute with his play calling. Usually will opt for a short pass on 3rd & short over just running it with our 6'3, 225 lb RB
4. He loves his screens. Doesn't seem to care about personnel. We had very little speed/YAC ability but opted for short screens/slants/etc
5. Goes along with 4- Didn't play to strengths of his players. Dude, trying to rack up YAC with James Jones and Andre Holmes is a baaad idea
6. We stuck with Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden for 2/3 of the season before giving Latavius Murray any shot. Pretty incriminating
7. Play designs usually weren't great for the situation we were in. On 3rd and 10, you'd often see 3/4 WR's routes didn't go past 5-6 yds
8. Obviously Olson had VERY little to work with. But not a big fan of how he used (or didn't use) the talent we had

Marrone amellett hogy nálunk dolgozik idén, még a Billstől is begyűjti a 4 millió dollárt a szerződéséből. Okos.

A Bills 30 sacket kapott be 2012ben, 48 2013ban (Manuel 1. éve), és 39 tavaly. A New Orleansnál és a Syracusenál egész jó O-lineokat rakott össze.

Ami érdekes, hogy előbb lett meg az OL coach, mint a OC. Vajon egyeztetett Gus a jelölttel Marroneról? Mert ha igen, akkor szerintem 1-2 napon belül lesz OC is.

Yarno idén nem fog edzeni nálunk, úgy látszik a rákja elleni küzdelem, komolyabb, mint azt gondolni lehetett.

Bortles a az OC keresés kapcsán nyilatkozott. Nagyon ímpresszív, hogy igyekszik mindenkről infót beszerezni, Marronenal beszélt is a múlt héten személyesen.

Bortles was making the media rounds this morning to promote the new Florida-based sports drink BODYARMOR.

In a phone interview, he touched on several topics:

*On the offensive coordinator search:

“Gus is doing a really good job in terms of his doing his due diligence and trying to find a guy who is not only the right fit as the play-caller and offensive coordinator but as a guy,” Bortles said. “It’s something I’m excited about. I talked briefly [with Bradley] on Monday about it and I have all the trust in the world in Gus that he’ll find the right guy.”

*On doing his homework on the candidates:

Bortles said he has talked with Oakland quarterback Derek Carr about Greg Olson, current Jaguars left guard Zane Beadles about Adam Gase and he ran into Doug Marrone last week at EverBank Field and talked to him personally.

“Every name that’s been out there, I’ve tried to get in contact with guys who know them,” Bortles said. “It’s helped to hear what other guys have to say, especially quarterbacks and getting their perspective. But it’s been cool to get an offensive lineman’s take, too.”

*On having an offensive coordinator with a quarterback-coaching background:

“Having an offensive coordinator that has a quarterback’s perspective paired with a quarterbacks coach is definitely an advantage,” Bortles said.

*On organizing an off-season passing camp:

“I’ve talked to everybody and everybody’s in,” Bortles said. “I’m headed out to [San Diego] pretty soon to start training. Anybody that runs routes and catches passes [will be invited].”
