Keep an eye on these four players:

DT Ziggy Hood. One of several additions to the Jaguars’ defense, Hood has seen plenty of 11-on-11 time because Roy Miller (shoulder) is being held out of that period. In this no-pads setting, Hood has still made an impression with a quick first step to knife into the backfield.

TE Marcel Jensen. An undrafted free agent from Fresno State, he missed the rookie camp last month recovering from sports hernia surgery. But once he got on the field, he has flashed by using his 6-foot-6 frame to make several impressive catches.

WR Allen Hurns. Like Jensen an undrafted free agent, Hurns has taken full advantage of the rash of receiver injuries by having a solid showing during the OTAs.

RB Denard Robinson. Although we’re still in Believe-It-When-We-See-It Mode concerning No. 16, the OTAs have been a resounding success for the quarterback-turned-receiver-turned running back. His comfort level catching passes out of the backfield is noticeable.

Comment: Of this group, Jensen and Hurns will need to have great training camps to make the roster, but they’ve exceeded expectations so far.

Hurns ezek szerint tényleg komoly eséllyel pályázhat egy roster sporta. Jensen esetében örömteli lenne, ha tényleg 3. számú TEként keretre kerülne. Bradley többször méltatta eddig, de azt is mondta, meg kell várni, hogy teljes felszerelésben mennyire megy majd neki a blokkolás. Passzelkapásban láthatólag nincsenek problémái.

Tegnap a picken kívül Bortlesé volt az offense két legjobb playe is.

Henne took 19 snaps and Bortles 21 snaps during the 11-on-11 periods.

Henne was 8-of-12 passing and Bortles was 12 for 18 with an interception (deflected pass by Tyson Alualu that was picked off by safety Joe Young).

“Blake is throwing better; Chad has been really steady,” coach Gus Bradley said. “When we get more of the receivers back, I think that will be a telling sign of where Chad is at and how much Blake is improving.”

Two plays that stood out both involved Bortles. On his first snap, he handed off to Denard Robinson, who threw it back to Bortles. His pass was broken up by linebacker John Lotulelei. Later, Bortles lofted a perfect pass over linebacker Nate Stupar and into the hands of tight end Clay Harbor.

• As of now, it appears that Winston Guy has the edge on the free safety spot for the Jaguars next to Jonathan Cyprien. To me, that would be a concern because both Guy and Cyprien are strong safeties in a league where you need a rangy free safety. Guy has impressed in his offseason work, and he is a willing tackler, but with the way teams spread out defenses these days, you need a safety who can cover.

WR MIKE BROWN

Last year: Brown parlayed a strong offseason and training camp into a roster spot but broke a bone in his back in Week 1 and missed four games. In 11 games, he had 32 catches for 446 yards and two touchdowns.

Why he’s on the bubble: Numbers game. The Jaguars drafted Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson in the second round to join Cecil Shorts as the top three receivers on the depth chart entering camp. Brown is among a group that includes Ace Sanders, Kerry Taylor and rookies Damian Copeland and Allen Hurns that could be competing for three spots.

How he makes the team: Experience. Brown can play multiple positions, and the coaching staff trusts him to do the right things. Plus, it could be dicey for the Jaguars to have more than two rookie receivers on the opening day roster — that’s a ton of youth.

QB RICKY STANZI

Last year: Claimed off waivers from Kansas City two days before the Jaguars’ final preseason game, Stanzi played against Atlanta, but that was it. He was the backup quarterback for five games (when Blaine Gabbert was injured). In three NFL seasons, Stanzi has yet to play a regular-season snap.

Why he’s on the bubble: The Jaguars re-signed Chad Henne before he hit the open free agent market, and they used their third overall pick to select Blake Bortles. Depending on the roster math, the Jaguars could keep only two quarterbacks, and if the team feels it wants another quarterback with NFL experience, Stanzi would be out.

How he makes the team: Because his snaps in the training camp practices will be limited, Stanzi can secure a spot with strong play in the preseason games that convinces the Jaguars they’re OK keeping him as the No. 3 instead of finding a veteran.

CB MIKE HARRIS

Last year: Harris played 403 snaps as the third cornerback, but his playing time fluctuated when the Jaguars began to experiment with Will Blackmon covering the slot.

Why he’s on the bubble: He’s the only cornerback acquired by the previous regime. The Jaguars have overhauled the position since March 2013, signing free agents Blackmon and Alan Ball and drafting Dwayne Gratz, Demetrius McCray and Jeremy Harris (last year) and Aaron Colvin (this year).

How he makes the team: Let’s count out Colvin for now — his knee injury will put him on the physically unable to perform list when camp starts. Mike and Jeremy Harris could be vying for one roster spot, and if Mike proves he can work outside and inside, his chances of sticking increase.

S CHRIS PROSINSKI

Last year: He played every game but only 82 snaps on defense as the Jaguars moved forward with rookie Josh Evans and second-year player Winston Guy after veteran Dwight Lowery sustained a season-ending concussion in Week 3 and kept Prosinski as the backup strong safety. He led the Jaguars with nine special teams tackles.

Why he’s on the bubble: In addition to Evans and Guy at free safety, Johnathan Cyprien is locked into the strong safety spot. The Jaguars also added Sherrod Martin (36 career starts) and undrafted rookie Craig Loston. Depending on the roster math, the Jaguars might keep only four safeties.

How he makes the team: Special teams. Only three players have been with the Jaguars longer than Prosinski (entering his fourth training camp) — that buys him nothing. But because of his experience playing well on special teams, don’t rule him out.

SEVERAL OFFENSIVE LINEMEN

Last year: The group includes tackles Sam Young and Cam Bradfield, guards Jacques McClendon and Drew Nowak and center Patrick Lewis. Bradfield started 11 games at left tackle, and McClendon started the last two games at left guard.

Why they’re on the bubble: One roster hypothetical is the Jaguars keep more defensive linemen (say, 10) and fewer offensive linemen (say, eight). That leaves nine players for three spots. Rookie center Luke Bowanko is a safe bet to make the team as a backup, leaving room for one reserve guard and tackle apiece.

How they make the team: They all won’t be on the 53-man roster, but Bradfield/Young will need to outplay undrafted rookie Josh Wells (who has been praised by insiders), and McClendon will need to beat out Nowak and undrafted rookie guard Tyler Shatley.

Generally, I focus on the drafted players in this review but perhaps no team found better value among the undrafted free agency than Jacksonville. Former Miami quarterback Stephen Morris is, of course, the headliner but a pair of Pac-12 standouts could be in better position to make the roster. Cal's Deandre Coleman is a massive run-stuffing presence with physical dimensions similar to five-tech defensive end Red Bryant, who Bradley convinced to join him in Jacksonville after getting released by Seattle. Former Oregon State corner Rashaad Reynolds plays with the NFL-caliber instincts and physicality, as well.

Ziggy Hoodnak tetszik az új posztja és a Jaguars D sémája. A Jagsnek meg tetszik az eddig elvégzett munkája.

Bradley has seen positive steps from Hood through the nine organized team activities the Jaguars have conducted.

“He’s really enjoying it,” Bradley said. “He’s doing good. It’s a different technique for him. We’re seeing great get-up and explosiveness. For him, it’s just reps. I think training camp will be really good for him. He’s understanding our tempo, learning our defense, what’s asked of him, but I think you will see him fine-tune it in camp.”

Defensive end Tyson Alualu knows what Hood is going through. He moved from tackle to end when Bradley took over the Jaguars last season.

“The biggest thing I told him is to get use to attacking and getting off the ball, especially in this defense,” Alualu said. “The three technique is what you want to play. You can never be wrong in this defense and everyone is playing off you, as long as you’re attacking and getting off the ball. He has all the tools that you need to play that position. He came from a read defense. This defense will definitely benefit his play.”

Hood recorded 140 tackles with 11.5 sacks in his five years with the Steelers. He was viewed as a disappointment after being selected with the 32nd overall pick in the draft after a strong career at Missouri.

The 27-year-old Hood did start 46 of 80 games for Pittsburgh and was durable. He never missed a game.

Hood recorded 39 tackles and three sacks last season, making seven starts, before Pittsburgh decided to let him test the market.

“I like this defense, because it lets guys like me and Marks play and perform,” Hood said. “It’s similar to what I did in college. My main concern is footwork. Once I get that down, I’ll be ready to rock and roll from there. That’s going to be different. I’m not coming out of a square stance and holding guys up anymore. I’m penetrating.”

The 6-foot-3, 300-pound Hood has shown off his significant strength at times during OTA drills. The Jaguars are also confident Hood will be quick enough to consistently generate a pass rush.

“He plays bigger than he is,” Jaguars defensive line coach Todd Wash said. “There’s a lot of guys that are 315 pounds, but play like they’re 285. He’s about 300 pounds and plays like he’s 320. He’s real strong. He’s a great athlete. It’s a slow process making that transition from a 3-4 read style to our attack front. But he’s getting better each day and we’re excited about his development. We feel like this style fits him more.”

Hood is also the key to getting Marks’ snaps down. Marks played 83 percent of the downs last season, a number the Jaguars want to drop. Marks enjoyed a productive season and the Jaguars feel he can be even better if they can keep him fresh.

That could help the Jaguars improve on last season’s forgettable totals — 29th against the run and tied for last in sacks.

“We want to try to spell Sen’Derrick some,” Bradley said. “He was very effective for us, but we think he can be more effective if we can take some of the reps off of him. Ziggy is a guy that we feel like by having him we can definitely do that.”

Marks left Auburn the same year Hood finished his career at Missouri. The two met at the NFL Scouting Combine and have been friends since.

“I always liked that way Ziggy played,” Marks said. “He’s been doing real good here. It’s a totally different transition from the 3-4 defense he was in to the attack defense, but I think he’s taking it on. They did this at Missouri. When he did it there, there’s a reason he went in the first round. Being in a read defense for five years can make you lose a couple things as far as steps and the muscle memory. But he’s taking it on well. He’s got all the strength and power in the world and he’s still a young guy.”

Hood will have three practices next week in the team’s mandatory minicamp to continue his progression before wrapping up the offseason with a five-week break prior to training camp opening on July 24.

His work habits have impressed his new teammates who weren’t as familiar with him as Marks.

“He’s an unbelievable worker,” Jaguars middle linebacker Paul Posluszny said. “He’s such a big body, but he moves so well which will be great for us. He’s a very well-rounded player. I’m glad we got him, because he’ll be a great addition to our defense and he’ll do some special things with our front.”
