11. Is Sen’Derrick Marks playing fewer snaps this year a realistic goal?

It’s a legitimate goal – coach Gus Bradley and defensive line coach Todd Wash have said as much.

And it would be shocking if the Jaguars don’t make it a reality starting with the season opener against Philadelphia’s fast-break offense.

Last year, Marks played 931 of 1,120 snaps – 83.1 percent, a staggering amount for an interior defensive lineman. Marks led Jaguars defensive linemen in snaps played in all but two games (Tyson Alualu had more against St. Louis and San Diego).

The Jaguars addressed the situation by signing Ziggy Hood, who will enter camp as the No. 3 defensive tackle. Another big plus is getting back starter Roy Miller from shoulder surgery.

Another thing that will lessen Marks’ load: The addition of Red Bryant, who can slide inside on third down, the development of second-year player Abry Jones, the decision to move Alualu from the “big” end spot to reserve tackle.

That gives the Jaguars a first tackle unit of Marks-Miller, a second unit of Hood-Alualu and a Jones as a swing guy.

If Marks can cut his percentage down to 70 percent, that’s eight fewer snaps per game compared to last year which means, essentially, taking two possessions off per game.

Én is kb oda(=29.) lőném be magunkat jelenleg. És ilyen sorsolással, az erősítésekkel (főleg a Dben) és ezzel az edzői stábbal remélem összeszedünk idén már 6-7 Wt.

10. Which match-ups should be favorable for the Jaguars?

The Jaguars have been the point-spread underdog in all but one game the last two years, and as of now, that trend hasn’t changed – until they start beating decent teams, they’ll have a ‘+’ next to their name on the latest line.

Week 6 – at Tennessee: The Jaguars started last year’s second half with a win in Nashville that was also the beginning of the end for coach Mike Munchak and most of his staff. Even with new coaches, the Titans still have problems, chiefly at quarterback (Jake Locker), running back (Chris Johnson was cut) and at cornerback (Alterraun Verner signed with Tampa Bay).

Week 8 – Miami: A big game for the Jaguars because of how the schedule sets up – home to Miami, at Cincinnati, vs. Dallas in London, bye week and at Indianapolis. If the Jaguars want to show improvement this year, they win games like this. The Dolphins were active in free agency (Branden Albert, Knowshon Moreno, Louis Delmas and Earl Mitchell). Ryan Tannehill was sacked 58 times last year so the Jaguars’ revamped pass rush should have the advantage.

Week 13 –NY Giants: The Giants will be interesting to watch early on. Ben McAdoo has replaced Kevin Gilbride as the offensive coordinator, tasked with improving an offense that was 28th in scoring and 30th in rushing and getting Eli Manning untracked. The Giants added a ton of players in free agency, including former Jaguars running back Rashad Jennings and former Seattle cornerback Walter Thurmond (who visited the Jaguars before signing with the Giants).

Week 14 – Houston: Who knows which quarterback will start for the Texans for this Dec. 7 game – the first of the teams’ two meetings in the season’s last four weeks. Ryan Fitzpatrick? Case Keenum? Tom Savage? Even with J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney on the Texans’ defense, the Jaguars need to start winning division home games.

“I trust Mike Brown,” Sullivan said. “He’s a steady Eddie guy. He captured the opportunity when it was available to him last year.”

A calf injury cost Doss most of the on-field activities in June, and Sullivan admits, “He’s got a ways to go. He’s working at it.”

Hurns drew organization-wide praise for his practice play once he signed as an undrafted free agent.

But could the Jaguars keep three rookie receivers?

“I like the kid,” Sullivan said. “I think he has some natural instincts. He has a chance to help us.”

9. On paper, which match-ups don’t look good for the Jaguars?

When the schedule was released this spring, the first four games jumped off the page … for all the wrong reasons.

Week 1: at Philadelphia – The Eagles led the NFL last year in yards per play and rushing yards per game and per carry and was fourth in points per game. Granted, they moved on from receiver DeSean Jackson, but they still have dynamic running back LeSean McCoy (NFL-high 314 carries and 1,607 yards last year). Coach Chip Kelly will have five months to game plan for the Jaguars, whose rebuilt defense will be tested immediately.

Week 2: at Washington – The Redskins stunk last year (3-13), but they have weapons galore on offense – quarterback Robert Griffin III (who has proclaimed he’s back to full strength), running back Alfred Morris, receivers DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon and former Florida tight end Jordan Reed. That’s a lot of match-ups for the Jaguars to account for.

Week 3: vs. Indianapolis – The Colts man-handled the Jaguars twice last year – 37-3 in Week 3 and 30-10 in Week 17. The Jaguars hope to be better and the home opener will be a test to see if they’ve closed the gap.

Week 4: at San Diego – The Chargers came to town last year and dominated 24-6, holding possession for more than 37 minutes. The Jaguars and West Coast trips have never got along.

But after that opening gauntlet, should any team really scare the Jaguars? Maybe Baltimore in Week 15.

If the Jaguars can win one of the first four games, good for them; if they can somehow split the first four games, that would be reason for optimism.

8. What will the right side of the Jaguars’ offensive line look like against Philadelphia?

Throughout the off-season workouts that were open to the public, Jacques McClendon and Brandon Linder took turns at right guard and Austin Pasztor and Cam Bradfield took turns at right tackle.

But when the Jaguars face the Eagles on Sept. 7, the expectation should be that Linder and Pasztor make up the line’s right side.

The Jaguars traded into the back half of the third round this spring to draft Linder at No. 93 overall. General manager Dave Caldwell knew he had to take a guard and had to move when there was a run on guards – Linder was the fifth guard to be selected in the third round.

Linder, though, didn’t work with the starting offensive line until the final week of the off-season and only then did he take selected snaps in McClendon’s place.

What I read into that: The Jaguars’ coaches didn’t want to simply hand the starting job to Linder so they put him on the second team to allow him to get his acclimated.

Coach Gus Bradley said the McClendon-Linder battle is one to watch in camp and it’s possible both could start games in the preseason. But the Jaguars drafted Linder to start right away.

At right tackle, Pasztor was a pleasant surprise last year, a college guard-turned-NFL right tackle who was thrust into action following the trade of Eugene Monroe and injury to Luke Joeckel.

Pasztor played through a shoulder injury that required off-season surgery and a long rehab. He was held out of team drills during the off-season workouts.

Pasztor said last month he’ll be ready for camp and the team expects that to be the case as well.

Contacted via email earlier this week, Lee’s agent, Andrew Kessler of Athletes First, said he doesn’t “comment on ongoing contract negotiations.”
A veteran agent said Thursday that if Kessler is holding out for additional money that is out of the slotted range, he’s wasting his time.
“He can try all he wants to get an un-slotted deal, but it’s not happening,” the agent said.
The agent said the hang up could revolve around workout money that “might be only $2,000-$3,000. … That shouldn’t hold up a deal.”
The agent reviewed the contracts directly in front (Tampa Bay tight end Austin Serefian-Jenkins) and behind (Detroit linebacker Kyle Van Noy) Lee’s draft spot and found no irregularities.
“I can’t find a real, viable reason why it hasn’t happened yet,” the agent said. “I can’t see what they could be arguing about.”
The agent said one theory could be that Lee’s camp wants his workout bonus – for example, $100,000, -- to not include the $195/day the collective bargaining agreement will require players in 2015 to be paid for attending the off-season program. (Lee wasn’t under contract for the recently-completed off-season so he will get none of that money.). Some teams have the off-season program salary included in the workout bonus, which means about $5,000 less for the player. The agent said he once represented a second-round player and the difference was $3,000, and “we split the difference with the team.”
The agent doesn’t expect Kessler to allow Lee to miss any of camp.
“If you have to take a deal you don’t want, why take it now?” the agent said. “I could see him signing the morning camp starts.”
Lee missed most of the Jaguars’ off-season program with an ankle injury, but is expected to be fully healthy when camp starts.

7. How many undrafted free agents will make the 53-man roster?

Over the last five years, 17 rookies who went undrafted made the Jaguars’ opening-day roster. That’s a product of equal parts a) good scouting and b) bad drafting. Because the Jaguars traded away so many picks through the years, they had room for diamonds to emerge.
Last year, DT Abry Jones, LB LaRoy Reynolds and LS Carson Tinker all made the team after going undrafted and all three are expected to make the team this year.
But with 17 combined draft picks the last two years, it leaves precious few spots for this year’s undrafted group.
As of today, there are 17 undrafted rookies on the roster. Our two favorites to make the 53-man roster:

WR Allen Hurns. He took advantage of injuries to, well, just about every receiver ahead of him on the depth chart during the OTAs to make a favorable impression.

TE Marcel Jensen. He had sports hernia surgery before the draft, which delayed his start to the off-season program. But once he got on the field, he flashed with his receiving skills.

The next tier of players includes CB Rashaad Reynolds, S Craig Loston and DT DeAndre Coleman, solid college players who might not make the 53 but would be solid practice squad candidates.

6. Who will return kickoffs and punts this year?

Kickoffs: Jordan Todman.
Punts: Ace Sanders and possibly Tandon Doss.

The Jaguars ranked third in kickoff return average but last in punt return average last year.

Seven players returned at least one kickoff last year, but the Jaguars quickly settled on Todman, who had 26 attempts for a 27.4-yard average. He had a long return of 59 yards.

Todman, back on the roster as the No. 2 running back, figures to get the first shot at returning kickoffs.

The Jaguars have a couple options at the punt return spot.

They drafted Sanders in 2013 and handed him the punt return duties … sort of.

With Justin Blackmon suspended the first four games, Sanders was thrust into a regular role at receiver and the Jaguars opted to keep him off punt returns to lighten his load – he had only one return in the first four games.

When Blackmon returned in Week 5, Sanders started to return punts and he averaged 5.6 yards on 25 returns. He had 16 fair catches and a long return of 17 yards.

The Jaguars still have faith in Sanders’ punt return ability but they also signed Doss to provide an option. Doss had a 15.6-yard average and an 82-yard touchdown for Baltimore last year.

The guess is that Doss was signed to provide insurance as a punt returner more than competition.

The Jaguars haven’t had a punt return for a touchdown since Mike Thomas in 2010 and haven’t had a kickoff return for a touchdown since Maurice Jones-Drew’s 100-yarder in the 2007 season.
