Állítólag a Marcedes-Julius Thomas duó ma megállítatlan volt a red zoneos helyzeteknél. Úgy tűnik House biztos kezdő és a McCray, Colvin Gratz 3as hajt a másik kezdő CB helyért. Mondjuk Bradley szerint Rashaad Reynolds is beleszólhat ebbe a versengésbe. Gus szerint Colvin tud kint és bent(nickel) is CBt játszani, egy picit Ronde Barberhez hasonlította. Rágógumi (Grazt) szerinte nagyon megkomolyodott az elmúlt évekhez képest. Michael Bennett már edz, de egyelőre még alkalmazkodik az NFL edzések atmoszférájához.
Greene, Doss és Ace a fő esélyesek továbbra is returner poszta.
Idén sem fogunk közös edzést tartani más csapatokkal, mert nem tudjuk összeegyeztetni a ki ütemtervünket másokkal.

Andre Branch bal térde enyhén megsérült, befáslizták, de ott maradt az edzésen.
Allen Robinson ma már futott különböző routokat, jó úton van, hogy visszatéren a jövő héten.

Babich nyilatkozott az edzés után, a legfontosabb infó, hogy Colvin a külső (normál) CB poszton dolgozik főleg és nem nickelben. Gus szerint Gratz is majd a kezdőkkel készül majd a héten. Úgy tűnik a McCray- House párost tekintjük a kezdő CBknek, és Colvin és Rágógumi probálhatja meg kiszorítani őket TC alatt.

Érdekes gondolatok Hallorentől. Amellett, hogy szerinte a center poszt lesz a legérdekesebb párharc idén nálunk az előszezonban(szerintem is- az LG poszt mellett), nem teljesen elképzelhetetlen, hogy a Wisniewski - Bowanko párharc győztese csak 1 évig örülhet. Mert utána érkezik Alex Mack!

Jaguars Insider: Competition at center will be worth watching

The Cleveland Browns started planning for 2016 last month when they drafted Florida State’s Cam Erving, who ended his college career at center, in the first round.
What does this have to do with the Jaguars? Potentially plenty.

The Browns’ Alex Mack can opt out of his contract — which was designed in the form of an offer sheet by the Jaguars in April 2014 — after the season. It’s not a stretch to see Mack ending up in Jacksonville if he is fed up in Cleveland.

But for this year, the center spot will be manned by incumbent Luke Bowanko or veteran addition Stefen Wisniewski.

Bowanko started the final 14 games last year as a rookie and had four penalties in 922 snaps. But new offensive coordinator Greg Olson pushed for Wisniewski; the two were together in Oakland in 2013-14.

Will Bowanko get a fair shot? Teams generally don’t sign guys like Wisniewski and then have him watch.

“I try not to think about that,” Bowanko said. “If I’m the best I can be and that’s the best player for the Jags, then I’ll be out there.”

Bowanko was out there last week with the first-team offense, partly because Wisniewski is being held out until training camp after labrum surgery.

“I need to make these count,” Bowanko said. “[Wisniewski] is a very good player, a player that is confident and comfortable in this system. He’s helped me and everybody out with grasping this offense.”

Bowanko said offensive line coach Doug Marrone has been direct in what he wants out of a center.

“I don’t want to say ‘field general,’ but the center in his offensive line room needs to take a lot of the responsibilities in making the calls and identifying the defense,” Bowanko said. “I’ve really focused the last couple weeks on becoming more comfortable at the line, recognizing the defense, making my call based on the defense and rolling with it.”

Bowanko-Wisniewski will be the most intriguing starting spot competition when the pads go on in early August.

Quarterback Chad Henne’s relationship with Olson isn’t limited to 2012, Henne’s first year with the Jaguars and Olson’s only year as quarterbacks coach. When Olson was recruiting coordinator at Purdue in 2002, he tried to get Henne to sign with the Boilermakers. Henne chose Michigan.

“We go way back, and it’s just a good feeling knowing we can communicate and be on the same page and talk about how Blake [Bortles] was last year and how we can get him better,” Henne said.

Olson is Henne’s fifth offensive coordinator in eight NFL seasons (and fourth in five years) so he’s used to learning a new playbook. But he said his familiarity with Olson’s way of teaching has quickened the transition, which also helps Bortles.

“That’s definitely beneficial for Blake,” Henne said. “It’s always about the quarterback in this league, and if you have a coordinator who can develop an offense what the quarterback likes, it normally helps his play.”

The Jaguars don’t have a big time veteran receiver, but wide receiver coach Jerry Sullivan likes the group of young receivers the team has.

“Do we have a drum major, per se?’’ Sullivan said Thursday as the Jaguars wrapped up their first week of organized team activities (OTAs).

“No, but we have a lot of guys I trust and that’s a big part of it,’’ Sullivan said.

Sullivan said he has to provide leadership with so many young receivers on the team.

“When you have young players, I have to show the leadership and what you expect of them,’’ he said. “My demands have always been high and will be until they put me in a pine box somewhere and then it’ll be somebody else’s turn.’’

He will be 71 on July 13.

Despite the receivers' youth, Sullivan said it is a mature group and even though several players, including starters Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee, are fighting injuries, he is optimistic about the future for all the young receivers.

He said the receiver room isn’t utopia, but, “it’s a real good room of young guys that are eager and listen and try to do what’s right.’’

Jaguars QB Blake Bortles: At times last season, he played with as many as five other rookies on offense. That's tough on any quarterback, let alone one who's a rookie himself. The offensive style didn't help either. But there is a new coordinator and Bortles has spent a ton of time working on his mechanics, which needed fixing. That will lead to more accuracy, but the biggest thing will be his experience, as well as those around him.

Jaguars LB Telvin Smith: He made a ton of plays as a 220-pound rookie. Now that he's heavier -- and just as fast -- look for more big plays from this speedy linebacker. His ability to cover a lot of ground shows up on tape. With a better understanding of his assignments, he should be able to take it to the next level.

Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell hired former New York Jets general manager John Idzik to a full-time position and promoted two other personnel executives today.

Idzik, who was the Jets’ GM the previous two years, was hired by the Jaguars as an advisor before free agency in March. His new title will be special assistant to the general manager.

During his time with the Jaguars, Idzik has worked closely with director of football adminstration Tim Walsh with salary cap management and contract structuring.

Idzik was fired by Jets owner Woody Johnson a day after the 2014 season ended in a purge that also included coach Rex Ryan.

The two promotions: Chris Polian from director of pro personnel to director of player personnel and Chris Driggers from pro scout to director of pro personnel.

Polian worked for Carolina, Indianapolis (he was eventually the Colts' GM) and Atlanta before joining the Jaguars in May 2013. Caldwell and Polian previously worked together with the Panthers and Colts for Polian’s dad, Bill.

Driggers has been with the Jaguars since October 1994 and started as a salary cap administrator before becoming a scouting assistant in 1998.

Gus ma kiemelte Zane Beadlest, mint aki nagyon sokat javított a bizonyos dolgokon tavalyhoz képest.
Az O-fal tagjai közül többekre is igaz ez, de természeten mint egység,., messze vannak attól, amire szükségünk lesz a szezon során.

Mondjuk Allen Robinson hiánya tavaly a szezon második felében már látványosan visszavetette az offenset, szóval ő már most kezd kihagyhatatlan lenni.
Nem baj, ha van pár opció, tavaly ugyebár volt olyan a szezon elején, amikor A-Rob meg Hurns volt a kezdő WR páros mert Lee meg Shorts sérült volt. Marqise gyakran bajlódik valamivel, Hurnsre nem tudni, milyen hatással lesz az Olson offense, szóval nem aggódom, hogy nem lesz lehetősége bizonyítani. Szerény véleményem szerint Greene simán lehet az idei Hurns.

Halloren cikke Marcedes Lewis új szerepéről és jövőjéről. A Jags nem adott neki ultimátumot, hogy menjen bele egy paycutba, és szerettek volna vele is úgy hosszabbítani, ahogy Pozzal (egy vagy 2 évvel megtoldani a szerződését), de Marcedes nem élt a llehetőséggel.

Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis catches the spirit in new role

The Jaguars’ first organized team activity practice Tuesday morning didn’t produce many highlight plays for tight end Marcedes Lewis.

“I’ve had better days,” he said.

Lewis, 31 and entering his 10th year with the Jaguars, hopes there only good days ahead after two straight injury-plagued seasons that caused him to miss a combined 13 games.

Lewis is with the same team and has the same No. 89, but just about everything else is different.

In mid-March, Lewis’ role changed when the Jaguars made tight end Julius Thomas the centerpiece of their free agent frenzy.

In mid-April, Lewis’ salary changed. A re-worked contract lowered his base salary from $6.65 million to $2 million and his cap hit from $8.2 million (fourth-highest on the team) to $3.85 million (15th-highest).

After practice, Lewis declined to shed much light over the re-negotiation except to say he wasn’t given a take-the-pay-cut-or-be-released ultimatum.

A league source, though, said the Jaguars initially approached Lewis’ camp about an extension and conversations included three-, two- and one-year add-ons to his current deal, like the Jaguars did with linebacker Paul Posluszny.

But the source said Lewis nixed those talks, hoping a healthy and productive 2015 can make him an attractive free agent next off-season.

Of the pay cut, Lewis said: “I understand it from a business standpoint — I’m a businessman myself so I get it. My biggest thing is that I wanted to be in an off-season program.”

To that point, once Thomas was signed, Lewis wanted closure quickly via his release so he could pursue other employment or concrete confirmation he remained in the Jaguars’ current plans.

Lewis is in the Jaguars’ plans but in a new role.

Gone are the years when Lewis was the Jaguars’ starting tight end and primary passing game option at that position. From 2007-14, he started all 111 of his games.

Here are the days when Thomas is atop the Jaguars’ depth chart.

But Lewis spun his role the same way coach Gus Bradley and Co. have this spring. Greg Olson’s offense will feature regular two-tight end sets. The attention Thomas attracts from defenses could open things up for Lewis. And Lewis’ effectiveness as a blocker is still valued.

Also helping Lewis: It was a lousy tight end class in free agency (outside of Thomas and Miami’s Charles Clay, who walked to Buffalo on an offer sheet) and a similarly thin draft pool (only four chosen in the first 115 picks), making it difficult for the Jaguars to replace the vision they have for Lewis.

Bradley had no doubt Lewis would buy into his new role.

“I would have been surprised if he hadn’t,” Bradley said. “He’s been great, but he’s been like that. Whatever we ask of him, whatever we challenge him with, he’s done.”

If not being the No. 1 guy is a blow to his ego, Lewis wasn’t showing it.

“Nothing changes inside here,” he said, pointing to his heart. “My job is to still go out there and do my best to help this team win. I’m paid to do a job. I’ve had a chance to come here and do some good things over the years.”

Thomas had 12 touchdown catches in each of the last two years for Denver; Lewis has missed a combined 13 games and been limited to six touchdowns the last two years for the Jaguars. Hence, the organization’s need to upgrade.

Lewis is confident Thomas’ presence will help his productivity.

“We’re going to feed off each other,” Lewis said. “It’s going to be some problems for the other team now. They’re not going to be able to key on one guy.”

If Thomas lines up as a detached tight end (slot or out wide), that will guarantee Lewis will face a linebacker in coverage, a matchup he always thinks he can win.

“We’ve got a guy [Olson] who is really going to use the tight ends,” Lewis said. “I’m just excited.”
