Less than 24 hours after the Jaguars traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers, placekicker Josh Scobee told the Times-Union on Monday that he leaves Jacksonville with great memories about how the organization and fans treated him, harboring no bitterness toward being pushed out for rookie kicker Jason Myers.

"There’s no feelings of being hurt on my part because I understand it’s a business," Scobee said. "People get older and things get more expensive. Businesses tend to find things cheaper and younger. That’s just how it works. There’s no guarantees with anything.

"I’m getting a lot of supportive responses on Twitter like, ‘how could the Jaguars do this?’ I don’t disagree with what they did because Jason is a really good kicker. He hasn’t kicked in any big games, but neither did I when I was a rookie.”

Scobee, who was traded for a 2016 sixth-round draft pick, added that general manager Dave Caldwell and head coach Gus Bradley called him Sunday night and expressed their gratitude for the contributions of the Jaguars' all-time leading scorer (1,022 points), as well as his work in the community. Under the circumstances, he felt being traded to the Steelers was an acceptable option if he couldn't remain in Jacksonville.

“The last 24 hours have gone by pretty fast," Scobee said. "I’m a little surprised, but not a whole lot of surprise because in this business, you can’t be shocked at anything that happens. It’s not like I was outright released on the street. I got traded to an organization where there’s a legitimate opportunity and I’m grateful for that.”

On risk for the Jaguars by going with a young kicker: “In this business, you can’t make decisions without the possibility of something bad happening. You have to live with the decisions you make. Some work out, some don’t. In my opinion, Jason’s going to be a good kicker. It’s just a matter of him going out and doing it.

“It’s trial by fire with young kickers in the league. I think Jason has the right mindset to succeed. He’s pretty even-keeled. He’s not bothered by it at all. I think he’s going to be pretty good. If he misses a field goal, I’m not going to have a smirk on my face and say, ‘See, that’s what you get.’ I’ll be rooting for him.”

On knowing he’s a one-year rental in Pittsburgh: “First and foremost, Shaun Suisham [sidelined by a season-ending injury]has done an amazing job. It’s a tough place to kick. He put up in the 90 percent range for three years [2011-13]. If he comes back full strength, it’s his job. I’m not predicting anything or trying to guess at what’s going to happen after this year. I stayed for as long as I did in Jacksonville because I didn’t worry about the next year. I can’t control how long I’m going to be with a team. I’m just going to enjoy it while I’m here.”

On what he will remember about time in Jax: “There’s a lot of single moments I’ll remember, but the overall thing I’ll cherish is how the fans really embraced me in Jacksonville. How many kickers in the NFL are beloved by their fans? Now that’s an opinion, but that’s how I feel the Jaguars fans treated me and my family. The fans were amazing. They’re just waiting for something good to happen. The beast is going to be let out of the cage when it does. They’re passionate and ready for a winner.”

Hamstring húzódása van hetek óta. Nem lehet tudni, hogy felépül-e a Carolina ellen. És ezért is küldtük el tegnap Dosst, mert még az 5. WRnek is többnek kell lennie, mint ST játékosnak. An educated guess: The Jaguars are looking to trade one of the kickers this week.

The Jaguars cut down to 75 players yesterday and appear committed to keeping two place-kickers on the roster until next Saturday’s cut to 53 players.

Incumbent Josh Scobee, the longest-tenured Jaguars player, has done nothing to show he doesn’t deserve to be back for a 12th season.

Challenger Jason Myers, 24, signed in March to be a Camp Leg has no NFL regular season experience but has impressed observers with his leg strength on kickoffs and field goals.

No way is the plan to keep Myers as a kickoff specialist – the 53 spots and especially the 46 game-day spots are too precious for that.

Scobee, the most prolific kicker in team history, is 2-of-2 on field goals (36 and 52 yards) and all five of his kickoffs have reached the end zone (four touch-backs).

If the Jaguars were having a true Kicking Competition, Scobee should be the guy for one huge reason: The Jaguars must win some games this year and do Dave Caldwell and Gus Bradley want to be trailing Carolina 17-15 in the opener and have Myers attempting a 50-yard field goal to win the game? They should want Scobee.

Myers has the leg – he’s 4-of-5 on field goals this preseason, makes of 38, 49, 55 and 35 yards and a miss from 58 yards. Seven of his eight kickoffs have reached the end zone (teams have returned three of those). Myers hit a 60-yard field goal in the Jaguars’ intrasquad scrimmage.

Which team would want Scobee? A team like Pittsburgh, which has already lost Shaun Suisham to a knee injury and saw his replacement, Garrett Hartley, injured his right hamstring on Saturday.

The Steelers would have to give up a Day 3 draft pick for Scobee, but would be getting a proven kicker for a team that is in position to win.

What would be Myers’ value? A late-round pick as well, but he could help a rebuilding team that feels its coverage team are leaky and he could deliver touchback after touchback.

■ Bortles scrambled four times for 38 yards, all against four-man rushes.

■ The Jaguars scored a touchdown on their opening drive despite tough sledding by the offensive line. LG Zane Beadles had three minus plays (two bad run blocks and a penalty), LT Luke Joeckel was bull-rushed by DE Phillip Hunt, and RT Jermey Parnell had a bad run play.

■ RB T.J. Yeldon played the first 11 snaps, posting rushes of 2, 2, 4, 0 and 0 yards and making an eight-yard catch. He made his catch four yards downfield and forced a missed tackle by LB Travis Lewis and stiff-armed CB Darius Slay.

■ It was easy pickings for WR Rashad Greene on a third-and-6 play from the Lions’ 21. Lined up in the right slot, he was matched against LB Stephen Tulloch and used a double move to get open for a 17-yard gain.

■ On WR Allen Hurns’ 4-yard touchdown catch, Lions CB Rashean Mathis thought he had safety help, but Glover Quin bit on the play-action fake to Yeldon, leaving the middle of the field open.

■ To start the second drive, Bortles threw incomplete under pressure when Beadles was run over and Joeckel was beaten to the inside.

■ A well-designed play freed up TE Marcedes Lewis for a 24-yard gain on a third-and-4 snap. Lewis and Greene ran shallow crosses, and Greene collided (or set a pick on) three Lions defenders. Lewis gained 20 yards after the catch.

■ On the third drive, Joeckel had two more minus plays, a pressure and a QB hit by Hunt.

■ RB Denard Robinson gained 16 yards on a screen pass with help from RG Tyler Shatley, who had a downfield block on Tulloch.

■ On Bortles’ final drive, he scrambled for 11 yards when RB Bernard Pierce came across his face to pick up a blitzing Hunt.

■ TE Clay Harbor’s injury occurred away from the play and was non-contact, he tried to make a cut and rolled his ankle.

DEFENSE

■ The Jaguars’ starters sent five pass rushers on five of 16 Detroit drop-backs. Against the blitz, the Lions were 3-of-5 passing for 90 yards, including Golden Tate’s 62-yard touchdown.

■ The blitzes: Two when LB Telvin Smith/LB Paul Posluszny and DE Chris Clemons dropped into zone coverage; Posluszny rush; Smith rush; and LB Dan Skuta rushing/Clemons dropping.

■ DE Andre Branch and DE Ryan Davis were the victims of friendly fire. Branch was in pursuit when CB Aaron Colvin went low to hit the ball carrier, but instead hit Branch’s left knee (sprained MCL). Davis was on the receiving end of a hit from LB Telvin Smith but returned to the game.

■ To close the first drive, Smith did great work in coverage, running with speedy Lions RB Ameer Abdullah on a wheel route 20 yards down the right sideline.

■ Missed tackles: Two for SS Craig Loston and one each for Skuta and CB Davon House.

■ DE Jared Odrick almost had an interception on the Lions’ second drive when Pettigrew briefly blocked him before releasing into a screen. Odrick read it and forced the incompletion and a failed third down.

■ No sacks for the Jaguars, but DT Roy Miller beat rookie LG Laken Tomlinson for a hit on Matthew Stafford.

■ Stafford held the ball for 3.31 seconds on his touchdown to Tate, who caught the pass in stride at the 20-yard line. Colvin’s coverage was terrible, but the throw was perfect.

■ The most disappointing possession for the Jaguars was the 95-yard march late in the second quarter. On third-and-1, rookie RB Zach Zenner gained 41 yards around the right side. Among the many things that went wrong was Colvin attempting to set the edge against RT Cornelius Lucas.

■ Stafford’s last pass was a 4-yard touchdown to WR Corey Fuller on a quick slant. House was in coverage and didn’t get his hands on Fuller. He must have been expecting a fade to the corner of the end zone because he was also playing slightly outside leverage.

■ The defense forced a three-and-out to start the third quarter (QB Dan Orlovsky was in the game). Skuta was unblocked to stop RB George Winn for a 3-yard loss and then limited Winn to a 2-yard gain. Orlovsky threw incomplete on third down.

1. Miért tradelné el a Seattle az egyik jobb playmakerét, mikor idén is a Superbowl a cél a számukra?
2. Irvin 2015 után FA lesz, tehát a Jaguars csak 16 meccsre tudná biztosan a soraiban tudni (mondjuk szezon közben is lehet vele hosszabbítani.... Ik.)
3. Dave Caldwell nem híres arról, hogy feladna egy 1. vagy 2. napos picket egy veteránért.
4. Mindezek ellenére Halloren gondolkodás nélkül meglépné a cserét.

A waiver sem jelenthet megoldást, mert a Bucs és Titans előttünk van, és mindkét csapatnak jól jönne egy jobb kirakott pass rusher. Csak esetleg egy 3. napos picket lehetne beáldozni, hogy ezt megelőzzük.
Aldon Smithen kívül olyan FA LEO jelöltek elérhetőek még, mint Dwight Freeney (öreg), John Abraham(öreg), Kamerion Wimbley(a Titansnél nem sok vizet zavart az elmúlt 2 évben...). Andre Branchnek MCL ficama van, pár hétig nem lesz bevethető. Ha Marks sem épül fel, akkor könnyen lehet, hogy 2 inaktív DLünk lesz kereten az első hetekben, bár Gus továbbra is bízik abban, hogy Sen' Derrick felépül.

Windmill hiányában nem Clemons, hanem Chris Smith kapja majd valószínűleg az 1st és 2nd downos snapek nagy részét, és Skuta is játszhat majd LEOt.. Ez eléggé beszédes avval kapcsolatban, hogy jelenleg mennyire számítanak Clemonsra a Jaguarsban.

Linder biztos nem játszik jövő héten, Gus reméli, hogy ő, Julius Thomas és Cyprien is mind bevethetőek lesznek a Carolina ellen már. A Linder helyén játszó Tyler Shatleyvel NAGYON meg volt elégedve Bradley (is), úgy tűnik újabb játékos váltotta meg a helyét az 53ba. Austin Pasztor viszont kezdhet aggódni, nem is kicsit. Főleg az alapján, ahogy tegnap játszott...

Bortles stajai picivel több, mint 1 félidő alatt - 29/20 245 passzolt yard, 1 TD. 0 benyelt sack, 38 futott yard, 10/12 3rd downon(!!!). Teljesen rendszeridegen statok ezek egy Jaguars QBtől. 😀
82, 80, 83 és 68 yardos driveokat vezetett, a harmadikból azért nem lett pont, mert rámentünk 4.re is a 5 yardos környékén. Baromi jó volt látni ma is a játékát.
Eddigi előszezon statjai: 110 snap, 60/39 461 passzolt yard, 42 futott yard 5 carryből, 1 passzolt és 1 futott TD, 0 INT.
És Julius Thomas meg Lee nincs is még pályán!
Egyéb pozítvumok:
Az egész O-fal nem volt rossz, bár Joeckelnek volt megint 2 látványos hibája (meg egy pár király blokkja is, de arról senki e fog beszélni, bezzeg a hibáiról...). És Tyler Shatley gond nélkül helyettesíteni tudta a megsérült Lindert.
Nick Marshall és Walters szerintem beverekedte magát az 53ba. Cap Capi továbbra is hatékonyabb, mint Andre Branch. Az egyik talán practice squados lesz, a másik meg lehet kezd...
A Bortles- Hurns duó ma hatékonyabb volt, mint a Bortles- A-Rob tandem, de Blake mindig megtalált egy jó célpontot, és ezt remek volt látni. Hurns rendszeresen megszívatta a Jags történetének legjobb CBjét, Rashean Mathist.

Azért volt pár dolog, ami nem tetszett.
A kezdő D megint harmatgyengének tűnt, pass rush továbbra sem volt. Idén azt hiszem miattuk többet fogunk szentségelni, mint az offense miatt!
Yeldonnak még van hova fejlődni, pl 2 olyan helyzet is volt, amikor ment előre bele a falba, mikor tőle balra ott volt a rés. A TDje se volt szerintem TD... Ezzel szemben a túloldalon Abdullah és a meccs MVPje, Zach Zenner (szintén rookie RBk) villogtak. remélem, hogy csak az 1. NFL meccs miatt voltak ilyen hibái. Mondjuk az elkapások mentek neki, csak nem ezért draftoltuk...
Mondjuk a futásblokkolásban a fal sem mindig jeleskedett ma.
A. J. Cann egyelőre max STben lesz hasznos, a G poszt NFLben még sok neki...
És a sérülések: megsérült Branch (mondjuk nem vettük észre a hiányát utána, sőt...) Harbor, Hurns és Linder. Allen Robinsont és Ryan Davist is ápolni kellett, de ők visszatértek később.
Hurns és Harbor sérülése nem tűnt komolyan, előbbit óvatosságból vették ki inkább.
Remélem Linderé sem komoly, mert az nagy érvágás lenne.

*Right guard Brandon Linder sustained a toe injury on his left foot.

“He could have come back and played,” coach Gus Bradley said.

Linder was injured on the opening series and returned to the sideline after getting evaluated.

Tyler Shatley took Linder’s spot with the starters.

*Defensive end Andre Branch is headed for an MRI on his left knee.

“We’ve got our fingers crossed on that one,” Bradley said. “We’ll see. I know he was walking around a little bit in the training room.”

Branch had crutches in the locker room but was telling teammates he didn’t need them.

Branch declined to talk to reporters.

*Receiver Allen Robinson injured his shoulder but returned to the game.

*Receiver Allen Hurns had hip tightness and was held out of the second half as a precaution.

*Tight end Clay Harbor injured his right ankle on the starting offense’s final drive (early third quarter) and didn’t return.

Jerry Sullivan és a Jags stábja egyre elégedettebb Rashad Greenenel. Nemcsak, hogy úgy tűnik a PR poszt is az övé lehet, de ha Lee nem épül fel a szezonnyitóra, akkor ő lehet a 3. WR 3 elkapós felállásoknál.

“The other guy who is coming along is Rashad Greene,” Sullivan said. “Yeah, man, he’s making strides. He has a lot of tools and we like what we see.”

Greene, the Jaguars’ fifth-round draft pick, experienced a slow start to camp — he wasn’t dropping passes, but he wasn’t standing out, either. That was followed by only a brief appearance against Pittsburgh because of Achilles’ tendonitis.

But three days of rest from Aug. 15-17, including sitting out a practice, have helped do the trick for Greene, whose role could be as the No. 3 receiver if Marqise Lee isn’t ready because of a hamstring injury sustained Aug. 5.

Greene has seized the Jaguars’ punt return and slot receiver roles heading into Friday night’s third preseason game against the Detroit Lions, the traditional final tune-up for the starters and key reserves.

Greene had two catches for 14 yards last week against the Giants. As a punt returner, he had a six-yard return and recovered a muff attempt. But he earned his keep with a 37-yard return against Pittsburgh.

“The more reps I’ve got and the healthier I’ve got, I’ve been able to move around the way I want to,” Greene said. “I continue to study and learn from the guys who have been here. I think I’m a pretty good learner and pretty fast learner so when I got a hang for everything, I was able to get right in and compete.”

Said Sullivan: “It took him some time to get comfortable. But I’ve gained respect for him because he hasn’t said a whole lot, but has learned and is getting better as he goes, which is right up my alley.”

What could be up Greene’s alley come Week 1 against Carolina is a role in three-receiver personnel.

Against the Giants, Greene played 18 snaps, all in the slot or in a stacked set closer to the tight end.

Greene’s first reception went for 10 yards on third-and-8 when he broke Bennett Jackson’s tackle to gain seven yards after the catch.

“That was critical for me because it was a catch that moved the chains,” Greene said.

Greene’s second catch was a four-yard gain. Quarterback Blake Bortles had a run-pass option and quickly threw to Greene down the line of scrimmage when a linebacker began shading toward run support. The throw was behind Greene, but he kept his balance.

“And I actually messed up on that play because I had my footwork wrong,” Greene said. “The throw was behind me, but as a receiver, it’s my job to make the catch.”

Said Bortles: “He’s a guy that’s really versatile, explosive and can make plays. Attacking and getting the first down, I think that’s kind of his game.”

Greene’s shiftiness also comes in handy on punt returns. He averaged 12.2 yards on 38 attempts at Florida State, but entered camp as the perceived underdog to Tandon Doss and Bryan Walters. Now he appears to be the front-runner.

“That’s something I’ve always felt like I was natural at doing,” Greene said. “It’s another opportunity to get on the field and compete.”

Greene will see snaps with the starters, who are expected to play into the third quarter.

“We usually say, ‘number of plays,’ but I would like to have a length of time [Friday],” coach Gus Bradley said. “It would be ideal for them to go in at halftime and then come back out and get some plays in the second half.”

FIVE JAGUARS TO WATCH

RB T.J. YELDON

Out the first two preseason games with a sprained finger, Yeldon (above, center) is set to make his Jaguars debut after practicing in pads without restrictions Monday and Tuesday. Expect him to either start or at least run with the starters in the first half. The Jaguars feel they know what they have in Yeldon (their Week 1 starter) so the game should serve as a chance for him to get tackled and pass protect before the opener.

FS JAMES SAMPLE

A game-time decision, Sample took off the non-contact jersey this week; he sustained a broken forearm in early June and had surgery. If he plays, look for Sample to play with the second-team defense to get ready for more snaps next week against Washington. Sample has much catching-up to do before challenging Sergio Brown for the starting spot.

WR TANDON DOSS

The punt return job will likely go to rookie Rashad Greene, but is there still a roster spot for Doss? Maybe. Arrelious Benn (collarbone) was placed on injured reserve Monday, rookie seventh-round pick Neal Sterling (hamstring) will miss his third straight game and Tony Washington had a big drop last week. Doss has two more chances to make an impression.

DE CHRIS CLEMONS

Andre Branch will start at the weak-side defensive end (Leo) spot, but Clemons will probably get 15 or so snaps as a sub-package pass rusher, his probable role in the regular season. Clemons didn’t begin practicing until Aug. 17 and this will be his first — and only — action of the preseason. Clemons has maintained throughout the off-season he’ll be ready for Week 1. We get a glimpse at his sharpness against Detroit.

C/G LUKE BOWANKO

Bowanko lost the center competition to Stefen Wisniewski, who was named the Week 1 starter on Monday. But Bowanko still has much to gain. Look for him to see time at guard once the starters exit the game. If he proves to be effective, it will give the coaches flexibility in deciding which reserve linemen to keep on the 53-man roster.
