Remek kis edzőtábort tartott a Jags Angliában, 2 napos képzés volt játékosoknak ex jaguár játékosokkal és a csapat körüli edzőkkel, míg a mai nap több előadás Marcus Strouddal, David Gerrardal, Tony Bosellivel, Drayton Florencel, Marcus Pollarddal (ex játékosok) és Mike Malloryval (spec team coord.) és Aaron Whitecottonnal (asst. DL és asst DC).
Mindegyikük nagyon közvetlen és jó fej volt, ugyan nagy műhelytitkokat nem tudtunk meg tőlük, de csak alap dolgokat mondtak mert nem tudták, hogy az angliai és néhány eu-s edző milyen színvonalon van, mire kíváncsiak. Állítólag jövőre már mélyebben belemennek, legalább ezt beszélgettük a Jags főszervezőjével, akit nagyon meglepett milyen érdeklődés volt, mert kb 40 emberre számítottak és jött helyette a duplája. Jaguars position preview: Addition of Jack gives linebacker unit significant upgrade

What we know about Jaguars second-round pick Myles Jack: He is a rare athlete, is healthy, is the presumptive middle linebacker in 2017 and is adding a play-making dimension the organization hasn’t had in years.

The expectations inside and outside EverBank Field are that Jack can be a game-changer.

“He’s a freak,” defensive coordinator Todd Wash said.

But as the Jaguars continue the countdown to training camp, two questions about Jack lack clarity: What position will he play? And which situations will he play?

Jack is learning middle linebacker, which the coaches believe will give him a broader knowledge of the defense. But don’t be surprised if he takes snaps at the strong-side spot. And expect Jack to play on sub-package downs (five defensive backs).

Jack is one of five linebackers basically locked onto the initial 53-man roster, joining Paul Posluszny (middle), Telvin Smith (weak-side) and Dan Skuta and Ryan Davis (both strong-side).

That leaves one spot available for Jordan Tripp, Hayes Pullard, Sean Porter, Joplo Bartu and Thurston Armbrister.

“This group is deep,” linebackers coach Robert Saleh said. “It will sort itself out, but there are going to be some very, very hard decisions.”

An easy decision for the Jaguars, once the first round of the draft ended, was to get in position to take Jack. They traded up two spots to No. 36.

UCLA’s class schedule prevented Jack from participating in the Jaguars’ off-season program until June 10, limiting him to two practices. Jack’s crash-course will resume when the rookies report to camp July 25.

Jack is listed at 6 foot 1 and 245 pounds — big enough to take on guards and tackles in the run game and quick enough to cover slot receivers.

“He’s rare because he’s such a big human being,” Saleh said. “He looks like a linebacker but moves like a safety. As the mental part grows, we’ll see [the athleticism] come to fruition more.”

The Jaguars feel good about Jack, but they are also confident in Posluszny and Smith.

Entering his 10th NFL season, Posluszny, 31, looked quick moving around the field during the offseason program. He has at least 115 tackles in his seven full years, but has had issues covering downfield. The Jaguars will have a tough decision to make on him — is he a two- or an every-down player? — if he has a strong preseason in pass defense.

“[Posluszny] is a warrior,” Saleh said. “He’s everything you look for in a professional as far as showing up every day, doing exactly what you want him to do and doing things exactly right. He plays fast and smart and with great technique.”

Smith broke out with a 128-tackle season. Eligible for a contract extension after this year, the best way for him to get big money is to create more takeaways — he has 4.5 sacks, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries in 30 games.

But Saleh said he “never talks about production,” with Smith.

“If Telvin operates at his highest ability, we trust that whatever the end result is, it’s going to be pretty good,” Saleh said.

At the strong-side spot, Skuta returns, but will also work as a situational defensive end. Davis has moved to the strong-side position, but will still take pass-rushing snaps.

After the top five, Tripp could have the inside track to a roster spot because he can play all three linebacker positions and all four special teams units.

Armbrister, last year’s back-up middle linebacker, has been moved to the strong-side Pullard, Bartu and Porter are long shots to make the roster.

Jaguars position preview: Upgrading secondary a must; Ramsey, Gipson provide hope

Long gone are cornerbacks Alan Ball, Will Blackmon and Mike Harris and safeties Sergio Brown, Winston Guy, Dwight Lowery and Chris Prosinski.

Still around but low on the depth chart are cornerbacks Dwayne Gratz and Demetrius McCray and safety Josh Evans.

Since coach Gus Bradley was hired in 2013, the moving target that is finding a competent NFL secondary has been largely missed by the Jaguars.

Until now?

“On paper and looking at the potential, there’s no question we have a better group,” defensive backs coach DeWayne Walker said.

The Jaguars signed free safety Tashaun Gipson and cornerback Prince Amukamara and drafted cornerback Jalen Ramsey. They join strong safety Johnathan Cyprien and cornerbacks Davon House and Aaron Colvin as the top six defensive backs entering training camp.

The Jaguars need to get more production from the back end. In the last three years, the secondary has combined for only 12 interceptions. The Jaguars have ranked 25th, 22nd and 29th in passing yards allowed per game.

Recognizing the deficiencies, management signed House last year (team-high four picks) and then added Gipson, Amukamara and Ramsey.

Not many seats are available in the defensive backs meeting room.

An educated and conservative estimate has the Jaguars keeping five cornerbacks and four safeties. Not counting Colvin (four-game suspension), there are eight locks: House, Ramsey, Amukamara and Nick Marshall at cornerback and Gipson, Cyprien, James Sample and Peyton Thompson at safety. That means Gratz, McCray and Evans — all 2013 draft picks — could be in trouble.

The centerpieces of the secondary need to be Gipson and Ramsey.

Signed to a five-year, $36 million contract ($12 million guaranteed), Gipson gives the Jaguars their best chance to solidify free safety. He made the Pro Bowl in 2014 for Cleveland and has 14 interceptions in 50 career games.

If effective, Gipson will allow the Jaguars to play Cyprien closer to the line of scrimmage.

“My job is to make them say, ‘Hey, we underpaid this guy,’” Gipson said. “I want to go out there and exceed expectations.”

Ramsey, selected with the No. 5 overall pick, sustained a knee injury and underwent surgery May 24, but is expected to be ready for training camp.

Ramsey will play at one outside spot opposite House and is a candidate to slide inside to cover the slot receiver during Colvin’s suspension.

“We all know [Ramsey] has the skill set,” Gipson said. “I’m excited to get out there and play with him.”

Amukamara is on a one-year prove-it contract — if he plays 16 games, he’ll get a multiyear deal somewhere (maybe with the Jaguars). After floating the idea of him playing inside, that has been nixed.

“He’s just a technician and that’s the kind of cornerback I want when I’m in the middle of the field,” Gipson said. “He’s an old-school football player. He’s physical, he can run and he can play press.”

Colvin’s suspension was announced April 8 and while eligible to practice and play in the preseason, he can’t play until Oct. 16 at Chicago.

Colvin won’t count against the 53-man roster so that could create a roster spot unless the Jaguars keep an extra defensive lineman or linebacker. Gratz was moved inside to cover the slot receiver and is an option or if undrafted rookie free safety Jarrod Wilson flashes like he did in mini-camp, he could squeeze onto the roster.

At strong safety, Cyprien is the favorite to beat out Sample. In the final year of his rookie contract, Cyprien must tackle better (team-high 21 missed tackles last year) to command a pay raise next March.

Sample was a strong safety two years at Louisville and was used at free safety by the Jaguars as a rookie before a season-ending shoulder injury.

Thompson, a reserve cornerback last year, has been moved to backup free safety.

The Jaguars signed three undrafted free agents —Wilson and cornerbacks Mike Hilton and Briean Boddy-Calhoun. They could be competing for one practice spot if Wilson doesn’t make the roster.

During an already busy offseason, Jaguars punter Brad Nortman has adjusted to playing for a new team for the first time in his career, become familiar living in a new city with his wife and started to fine-tune his own mechanics.

So why is he so worried about kicker Jason Myers?

Because in addition to his responsibilities, Nortman will also be the holder for Myers. That means learning everything about his new teammate — how Myers prefers the football to be held, the timing of his steps and follow through and anything else that can help make his job easier.

Nortman probably even knows what Myers likes best for breakfast, lunch and dinner by now.

“You’re in total service mode,” Nortman said of his role in the holder-kicker partnership. “You totally try to serve the kicker as much as you can because he’s the one who is making the contact. I just do whatever I can for Jason.”

Making life as easy as possible for Myers will make life better for Jaguars fans.

As a rookie last season, Myers connected on 26 of 30 field goal attempts, including a 53-yard game-winner against Baltimore in November. However, he was dogged because of his league-leading seven missed extra points.

Nortman, who signed a four-year deal worth $8.8 million in March, wasn’t around for those struggles. He is confident the trio of Myers, himself and long snapper Carson Tinker can clean up any issues that might lead to similar problems this season.

“Luckily, with Jason and Carson, they both are great professionals, and they know what they are doing,” Nortman said. “It hasn’t been too bad. I’m lucky to be able to work with those guys.”

Of Nortman, Myers said: “Everything has gone smooth. He’s a pro’s pro.”

Oh yeah, Nortman also has to focus on his punting duties.

He was signed to replace former third-round pick Bryan Anger after the two had mostly similar numbers last season.

Punting for Carolina, Nortman, a former sixth-round pick, finished 17th in the league with a net average of 39.8 yards over 70 punts and had five touchbacks. Anger was just about the same, finishing with a net average of 39.5 yards on 80 punts with four touchbacks.

While opponents averaged 7.8 yards per return on punts from Nortman, they returned Anger’s an average of 10.3 yards.

Asked if he would be fine only punting about once a game because of the team’s rapidly developing offense, Nortman joked: “I’m looking for some with zero.”

Of course, Nortman will be utilized more often than that, and he has garnered positive reviews so far from the Jaguars coaching staff.

At the end of the team’s June minicamp, coach Gus Bradley said he was pleased with he had seen — albeit not too much — from Nortman during special teams work.

“I watch him like you guys watch him in the beginning [of practice],” he said. “He seems very consistent. He’s got a great demeanor about him. Again, we’ll wait and see how it happens in training camp. Everything is great.”

Nortman sounded equally at ease. He said he will continue to make minor adjustments to his technique but believes he is primed for a strong first season in Jacksonville.

“I almost wish it was the season right now,” Nortman said at the time. “Because I’m hitting the ball how I want to.”

A fotón is látszik nem volt szomjas Skuta. Egyébként lehet, hogy hozzáért a nőhöz, de ha jól tudom (javítsatok ki ha nem) az már molesztálásnak számít az USA-ban. Bár lehet, hogy állama válogatja.

Július 25-én fognak a rookiek és az irányítók megérkezni TCre, a többiek 2 nappal később csatlakoznak majd.

Mindenki számára látogatható nyílt edzések időpontjai:

Augusztus 2, 4, 8 és 9
Az idei scrimmage augusztus 5.-én pénteken kerül megrendezésre
A 2 közös edzés a Tampa Bay Bucsszal augusztus 17.-én és 18.-án szintén látogatható lesz majd.
