The Detroit Lions have signed wide receiver Lance Long, according to the team's official site. Long is an undrafted free agent, but not from this year. He entered the NFL back in 2008 as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State and has bounced around the league the last few years. This is why the Lions are actually announcing the signing. Long isn't one of this year's UDFAs.

The Philadelphia Inquirer first reported the news of Boyle joining the Lions. He started all 13 games at left tackle for Temple in 2011. A year earlier, he made six starts, one of which came at right guard and five of which were at left guard. It appears he's pretty versatile in terms of where he can play on the O-line, and that will definitely help his chances of sticking with the Lions.

Lawrence most recently played for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He landed there after signing with Alabama out of high school and later transferring to Southern Miss. Now, he is set to join the Lions as an undrafted free agent.

"He's a possible PUP guy, but I think at some point during camp he'll be ready to go. The great thing with him is, we have the ability to take or time and get him healthy and get him on the field."

On cornerback Bill Bentley:
"He's got a lot of play-making ability. (He's) real quick, a good coverage guy, very aggressive in the run game -- a little smaller guy, but he has some ability to make tackles in the run game."

On OLB/DE Ronnell Lewis:
"We loved his special teams talent, his ability on special teams. This guy is a big hitter. He's big, he's fast, he's physical. We love what he brought to the table that way. On defense, he can play defensive end and he can play linebacker, so that really helps us out that way."

On whether he expects Ronnell to play linebacker or defensive end:
"I think our coaches will talk to him about that, but I think I see him more with his hand down, at defensive end, but we may want him to be at a weight where he can play either one."

On linebacker Tahir Whiteside:
"Yep, great player, great football character guy, a captain, a leader, all those positive intangibles. Once we knew who he was, we did not bring him in for a visit. We felt comfortable with who he was. (We) didn't feel the need to bring him in and tip our hand."

On cornerback Chris Greenwood:
"He's a guy who has been on our radar for a long time. He's very gifted athletically -- has size, speed, athleticism. We think he's a real good press corner right now. His game will develop with time, but he's a really talented guy."

On what he looks for when evaluating cornerbacks:
"he most important thing I look for in a corner is a guy that's really, really competitive. I want a guy that wants to compete all the time. The guys that we drafted all fit that mold, somewhat."

On cornerback Jonte Green:
"Size, speed, the guy has been a starter in a good college program. Yeah, a 4.3 (40-yard dash), 5-11. It's hard to find those big, fast corners and we found two of them in this draft."

On linebacker Travis Lewis:
"He was injured last year, played through it. He's another guy -- kind of like Tahir -- senior, captain, leader, all the intangibles, all the football character stuff that we like. He has all of those things."

On the status of the defense at this point in the offseason:
"I feel we're still a work in process. I look back at last season -- I look at the entire season, I don't look at just the last two games -- and I think we made some progress. I think having our front seven back, the entire group, is going to be big for us. Nick Fairley being healthy is going to be big for us. I think our defense is a work in progress, but it's steadily improving."

On whether he'll explore trades to fill needs now that the draft is done:
"I think so. I think there's some trade possibilities. I think you'll see some players be released, too. So I think we'll have some opportunities to acquire some players in the next few weeks."
