Werner után Jeff Linkenbach is a Jaguarsban. Pedig azt hittem leszoktunk már arról, hogy a Colts szemetesében turkáljunk. Linkenbach Lil Polian pusztítása idején került Indybe, aki véletlenül pont a veteránok feltérképezésével foglalkozik nálunk. Mondjuk John Benton, a Jags új támadófal segédedzője dolgozott vele Miamiban tavaly.

Jimbo Fischer Jalen Ramseyről:

Long before he joined the Jaguars and promised to make an instant impact, Jalen Ramsey did the same upon arriving at Florida State before the 2013 season.
“He said, ‘Coach, I’m going to start from Day One,’ ” Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher said. “I said, ‘If you’re the best player, you will [start], but realize Deion [Sanders] took four games to start.’ Jalen said, ‘I don’t care.’ ”

Ramsey started at cornerback as a freshman before moving to free safety on a Florida State defense that led the nation in fewest points allowed (12.1 per game) and won the national championship.

Twenty-eight years after Sanders was drafted fifth overall by Atlanta, Ramsey, who moved back to cornerback in 2014-15, went No. 5 to the Jaguars.

Fisher (in place of defensive backs coach Charles Kelly) spoke with the Times-Union about Ramsey.

Question: Ramsey was a true freshman playing free safety on a defense laden with future NFL players (Telvin Smith, Lamarcus Joyner, Timmy Jernigan, Terrence Brooks, Ronald Darby and Christian Jones) that eventually won the national title. Was the moment ever too big for him in 2013?

Answer: “No, it really wasn’t. There’s a difference between arrogance and confidence. He carried himself with a lot of confidence and he believed in his ability. The thing I thought always separated him was his ability to mentally compartmentalize everything that was happening and then learn from it and process it during the game. He did that from the get-go.”

The Jaguars coaches have raved about Ramsey’s football smarts. How rare was that aspect of his game when he arrived at Florida State?

“Instincts are something you naturally have. He has the football instincts/IQ, but he also has pure intelligence. Darby was banged up early [in 2013] and that was one of the reasons Jalen got to start at corner, but he would have been on the field somehow anyway. We put him at corner, he starts there and then he moves positions..”

After playing free safety as a freshman, what was the reasoning behind moving Ramsey to covering the slot receiver in 2014?

“We felt we could use his versatility more [inside]. Sometimes, tall guys [Ramsey is 6-foot-1] have a tough time there, but he had the quickness and agility to cover the little guys. And he was very physical at the point of attack on run plays because he was playing like an outside linebacker and teams liked to run at him. The other thing – he was a very dynamic blitzer.”

Playing in that new role, did Ramsey pick things up quicker than you and the coaches thought he would?

“Yes, he did. But everything he’s ever done, he’s [adjusted quickly]. He will embarrass guys in practice if they’re not ready.”

Ramsey said he got his practice habits from current Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith. Sound right?

“There’s no doubt. The way that 2013 team practiced — with Telvin, Lamarcus and that whole group of guys on defense and then there was Jameis [Winston], Rashad [Greene], Devonta [Freeman] and [Kelvin] Benjamin on offense — practice was crazy.”

Ramsey was on the move again as a junior, playing outside corner. Is that his ideal home in the NFL?

“It starts there because if you have a true cornerback with his size who can match up against big receivers, that’s a huge advantage. Most big guys don’t have his strength or agility. And then if you want to match him up in nickel, he can play the little guy. His ability to play corner at this size makes him special.”

Wash elmondása alapján Ramsey lesz House párjha a kezdőben és a Prince Amukamara, Aaron Colvin, Dwayne Gratz trió fog megküzdeni a nickel CB posztért. Colvin max az 5. héttől kaphatja vissza ezt a posztot, ha esetleg felülmúlja Amukamarat TC alatt.

Greg olson elmondta, hogy Ryan Kelly volt a center jelöltünk a drafton. Ha sikerült volna őt ledraftolni, akkor ő lett volna a kezdő C a nyitányon. Így hogy ez nem jött össze, Liunder megy centerbe, és a karaokekirály (Nem semmi infó volt róla, amit találtál Phylos 😊 😊 😊 )lehet a kezdő LG. Olson szerint a tapasztalata sokat érhet.

So what are the Jaguars getting in Bernadeau?

“Experience,” Olson said. “He’s had experience with very good rushing football teams and Dallas is a similar scheme to us in the run game. We were able to see him do some of the things we do. He fits what we do.”

Bernadeau, 29, has played for Carolina and Dallas and been a nomad along the line.

For Carolina: Started 20 games over four years — five at right guard and 15 at left guard.

For Dallas: Started 29 games over four years — two at center, two at right guard and 25 at left guard.

That resume makes Bernadeau the most experienced projected Jaguars offensive line starter.

Week 1 vs. New York Giants (2013): Decent movement skills — went laterally while staying engaged with defensive tackle. … Was able to get to second level to block linebacker. … Wasn’t asked to pull-block often or get out to block for a screen pass. … In pass protection, gave up a hit when defender got under his hands and pushed him back. … Most of the time, showed good ability to re-anchor if pass rusher got initial advantage. … Cullen Jenkins tried an fake-outside-and-club-move-with-inside-arm, but was put on the turf by Bernadeau. … Gave up a tackle when linebacker was able to disengage.

Week 9 vs. Arizona (2014): Showed athleticism by getting 40 yards downfield on a screen pass, but didn’t have to block anybody. … Looked susceptible to power pass rushes. … Able to combat a swim move by pass rusher. … Reacted well to defensive line stunts, passing off one man to begin blocking another. … Flattened a blitzing safety.

Two weeks later, Jaguars defensive coordinator Todd Wash remains taken aback by how cornerback Jalen Ramsey (No. 5) and Jack (No. 36) fell into his clutches.

“I still sit and go, ‘How did in the [heck] did that happen?’” Wash said. “It’s amazing how it worked out. Now we’ve got three top-five players [Ramsey, Jack and Dante Fowler] on our defense that weren’t on the field for us last year so we’re obviously very excited.”

Of Ramsey, Wash said: “He’s here for a purpose. His mental make-up is special. He has a lot of confidence, which is good, but it’s not over-the-top. He wants to be challenged and the good thing here is, he’s going to get challenged.”

Ramsey joined the veterans for the offseason program last Monday, but Jack had to leave town per NCAA/NFL agreement (UCLA is in class until June 10).

“There are rules you have to follow, but he has a playbook and a [tablet],” Wash said. “He’ll get the installs sent to him as we go through OTAs and then have different opportunities to talk to [linebackers coach Robert Saleh].”

Bortles szerint határozottan jól megy az átállás Lindernek guardból centerbe.

“I think it’s good,” Bortles said. “He’s made the transition well over the last week or so that we’ve been out there doing drills. I’m excited for him. He’s an intelligent kid. It really could have gone one of two ways. He could’ve been [filtered word] about it because he played well at guard before getting hurt. But, he’s excited about the challenge and learning the offense from the center position. So, I think it will be awesome.”

Szerinte idén összeérhet egy olyan fal előtte, amely évekig együtt marad majd. Legyen igaza, de nekem evvel kapcsolatban azért vannak kétségeim, főleg az LG posztot illetően.
