Nincs mit tenni, vitte a Nagy Szíve Paul-t. 😊

QB statok:
Bortles 13/8 19 snap (11 vs 11); 8/6 (INT) (7 vs 7)
Henne 9/6 (INT) 15 snap (11 vs 11), 4/2 (7 vs 7)
Allen 6/3 10 snap (11 vs 11); 2/1 (7 vs 7)
Wittek 4/3 7 snap (11 vs 11); 2/0 (7 vs 7)
Dropja volt Jacobs mellett Marcedesnek, Juliusnak, Koyacknek és Rashaad Baileynek. Koyack Gratz ellen egy szép elkapással korrigált.
Dante Fowler helyét Yannick Ngakoue, Miller helyét Abry Jones vette át ma a kezdőben.
Pass rush drill highllightok:
Highlights of the one-on-one pass rush drills: Rookie DE Yannick Ngakoue had the most impressive snap by far when he sped around LT Luke Joeckel. The fourth-year veteran had trouble getting a hand on the third-round pick.Halloren szerint a késői edzés jót tett a srácoknak, sokkal intenzívebbnek tűnt a gyakorlás második fele, mint mikor dél körül csinálják ezt a srácok 35 fok körüli hőmérsékletben.
DE Chris Smith showed multiple good moves against right tackle Jermey Parnell on both snaps.
DE Bjoern Werner has been stoned in all four of his chances in the first two padded practices. LT Josh Wells had little problem handling Werner’s power moves.
DT Michael Bennett displayed a good power move on G Chris Reed.
DE Jared Odrick and RG A.J. Cann split their snaps, but both reps featured impressive power from both players.
A következő edzésen felkerül a teljes felszerelés.

A secondary azért visszavágott.

“I’m not afraid to say we have a very good secondary,” Robinson said. “This will be the best secondary in our division. So, getting that work in against these guys, all the different sizes and matchups, will just make us better.”Robinson méltatta Ramseyt is
“Jalen is a hell of a player,” Robinson said. “Seeing a rookie come in with that physicality and knowledge of the game is really special. He’s going to be a real special player. He’s so good at the line with those really long arms.”Ha egymás ellen edződnek az évek alatt, az nekünk csak jó lesz. 😊
Hurns is beszállt a Jalen méltatásba
“You don’t see guys with his length move that well,” Hurns said. “His size and how fast he can move getting out of breaks is impressive. It’s exciting to go against that each and every day. It’s a battle.”Julius Thomas pedig Gipsont méltatta.
“When you get a veteran player back there, it’s really good for that position,” Thomas said. “It’s going to make the defense look a little bit different. Even as an offensive unit, we understand how good a fit Gip is back there. Just his speed and instinct gives us a little bit to think about out there.”Ha lesz pass rush, és hátul minden kulcsember egészséges marad, akkor ha a legjobb nem is, de nem is a legrosszabb lesz.

A kettőjük párharca eddig 3-0-ra áll a Pro Bowl WR javára

A többi rész eredetiben
*Highlights from 1-on-1 receiver/defensive back segment: Pass break-ups by Aaron Colvin (two), Nick Marshall, Josh Johnson and Dwayne Gratz. … WR Allen Robinson went 3-0 against CB Jalen Ramsey. … Bortles had three passes (all completions) – to Robinson down the left sideline (against Ramsey, who went for the jam and came up empty), WR Allen Hurns (post corner to beat Marshall) and to Thomas (who beat SS Johnathan Cyprien). … Other wins by the offense were catches by WR Rashad Lawrence (two), WR Bryan Walters and WR Shaq Evans. … Wittek made a nice back shoulder touchdown throw to Evans, who was covered closely by CB Davon House.Ez pedig Mike Kaye mai beszámolója
*Highlights from pass-rush drills (charted by the Times-Union’s Hays Carlyon): DE Dante Fowler was able to beat RT Jermey Parnell around the edge by bending at a rare angle. Tremendous agility. … C Brandon Linder was stout on consecutive snaps against DT Abry Jones. In a drill where the offensive lineman almost always eventually gives ground, Linder couldn’t be moved. … DT Malik Jackson showed his quickness, easily beating G Mackenzy Bernadeau on consecutive snaps. … LT Luke Joeckel had trouble when LB Dan Skuta beat him with speed off the edge while lined up at end. … RT Patrick Omameh stoned DE Bjoern Werner with ease on consecutive plays. … DE Yannick Ngakoue used impressive quickness off the ball and hand technique to whip past LT Josh Wells on both snaps.
*Going 2-0 in 1-on-1 drills were Linder, Omameh, Ngakoue, DE Chris Smith and DT Michael Bennett. RG A.J. Cann and Jackson went 3-1.
*To open 11-on-11, TE Marcedes Lewis got open down the left seam on what appeared to be a busted coverage. One play later, Hurns, lined up in the slot, made a catch. On the fourth play, Thomas had a step on Cyprien down the right sideline but Bortles overthrew him.
*During final 11-on-11 period … Bortles – threw to Thomas and then hit the deck when DE Yannick Ngakoue and C Brandon Linder got tangled up and collided with Bortles. … Henne – McCray had another pass break-up.
*In 7-on-7 … Bortles – Thomas continued his best practice of camp with two catches, but dropped his third target. … Henne – Completed all four of his attempts, throwing to TE Nic Jacobs, RB Jonas Gray, RB Denard Robinson and TE Ben Koyack. … Allen – His throw to Evans on a post route was broken up by CB Demetrius McCray. … Wittek – Threw a touchdown to WR Jamal Robinson when Marshall fell.
*Dropped passes during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11: Thomas and RB Corey Grant.
*K Jason Myers final field goal attempt – 63 yards – was wide left and probably didn’t have enough distance, either.

Wyatt kedvéért a mai TC edzésről készült FTU cikk magyarulSérült lista.
Yannick Ngakoue.
QB statok:
Bortles 18 snap 10/7 (11 vs 11) 8/5 (7 vs 7).
Henne 15 snap 9/6(11 vs 11) 4/2 (7 vs 7).
Allen 11 snap 6/5(11 vs 11) 2/2 (7 vs 7).
Wittek 5 snap 2/1(11 vs 11) 2/2 (7 vs 7).
/ csere rugó Sma Finken eddig mind a 9 FGjét értékesítette, ma 6/6-ot.Holnap Myers rúg
Hurns tegnap dicsérte Gipsont, ma 7 a 7 ellen Tashaun bizonyított is neki.
2076-an voltak kint az edzésen ma.

Igaz Gus ugyanezt mondta a sérülésről.

June 19 – when he was arrested in Orlando and investigated for misdemeanor first-degree battery – was a lousy day for Jaguars linebacker Dan Skuta.
But when news of the incident surfaced June 28 – that was a depressing day.
“When [news of the arrest] came out, it was the worst day of my life besides the day my brother passed away,” said Skuta, whose brother, Joe, died in his sleep in 2008. “It was an awful day. It hurt my family to see that because I want to be respected as a good guy and I’m having to call my nephews and nieces and tell them what can happen when you’re in the public eye. They all understood, but it was just sad.”
Skuta was arrested after a woman alleged he struck her in the face. Once the arrest was in the news cycle, Skuta’s lawyer released a blistering rebuke to the arrest – “It simply didn’t happen,” Mark NeJame said.
Skuta’s side of the story was two women were harassing him, his girlfriend and a group of their friends.
On July 14, authorities said Skuta would not be charged.
Following Thursday’s practice, Skuta said he and his girlfriend were at the restaurant/bar with players from the San Jose Earthquakes soccer team that he got to know when he was playing for San Francisco 49ers.
“One of my friends said these two girls were walking around and scoping us out – I didn’t even realize it,” he said. “They definitely had their eyes on our group and they could probably tell we were a group of athletes.”
Skuta, who said he wasn’t drunk during the incident, added it was “extremely shocking,” when he ended up on the ground and in hand-cuffs.
“I just didn’t know what was going on,” he said. “I got slapped and after that, my girlfriend immediately said, ‘Let’s go,’ and I walked off. And then I ended up being the one on the ground. I didn’t even know until the next day what I was being accused of so that was very frustrating. I asked them multiple times, ‘What did I do?’
“I still haven’t gotten an explanation of why it happened like that. I was very disappointed [with the police] but what can you do? They’re the police.”
Skuta, whose legal fees totaled $10,000, said he will use the incident as a talking point with the Jaguars’ young players.
“You can’t just go out like a normal person,” he said. “They’re looking to take advantage of you. This is the first time I was set up or attacked or whatever you want to call it. I don’t want anybody else to go through that.”

Halloren 1. napi TC riportja.PLAYER ATTENDANCEHouse pickje Julius Thomas ellen
Physically unable to perform: OL Luke Bowanko (hip) and DE Jonathan Woodard (Achilles).
Non-football injury: CB Mike Hilton.
NEW INJURIES
None.
TOP PLAY
*In 7-on-7, QB Blake Bortles completed a pass to WR Allen Robinson that included good coverage by CB Davon House, a perfectly-placed throw by Bortles and a well-time, jumping catch by Robinson.
THUMBS UP
*CB Jalen Ramsey looked the part in his first practice since undergoing right knee surgery May 24. He locked up his receivers in press coverage and showed good instincts, strength and explosiveness when he shed a block attempt by TE Ben Koyack to rub out a jet sweep by WR Marqise Lee.
*Covering TE Julius Thomas down the right sideline in 11-on-11, House positioned himself perfect to intercept Bortles.
THUMBS DOWN
*Fumbled center-quarterback exchanges. Bortles, Brandon Allen and Max Wittek each fumbled a snap and Chad Henne had a bobbled snap that he collected in time to run the play.
*False start penalties. Flagged were LG Mackenzy Bernadeau, G Kadeem Edwards and WR Rashad Lawrence.
ODDS AND ENDS
*Quarterback stats in 11-on-11: Bortles 4-of-8 (one INT) in 19 snaps; Henne 4-of-7 in 16 snaps; Allen 1-of-5 in 10 snaps and Wittek 3-of-4 in eight snaps.
*Quarterback stats in 7-on-7: Bortles 6-of-8, Henne 2-of-4, Allen 1-of-2 and Wittek 2-of-2.
*Dropped passes: WR Allen Robinson (a tough call, but we gave him a drop), WR Allen Hurns (don’t expect too many more of those) and TE Braedon Bowman (would have been a tough catch).
*LT Kelvin Beachum (knee) practiced for the first time since signing with the Jaguars in March, but was limited to individual drills only. LT Luke Joeckel and Bernadeau took the first-team reps.
*The second-team offensive line : RT Patrick Omameh, RG Chris Feed, C Tyler Shatley, LG Kadeem Edwards and LT Josh Wells.
*TE Julius Thomas and RB T.J. Yeldon were both limping around the locker room after practice because of problems with their new cleats.
*Catching punts were a whopping seven players: Hurns, Allen Robinson, WR Marqise Lee, WR Rashad Greene, WR Bryan Walters, CB Josh Johnson and CB Nick Marshall. Chances are, though, that Lee, Hurns and Robinson in particular take the reps just to stay busy.
*Bortles’ 11-on-11 completions were to Thomas (two), Greene and Walters.
*The first-snap defense: DE Jared Odrick, DE Dante Fowler, DT Malik Jackson, DT Roy Miller, LB Paul Posluszny, LB Dan Skuta, LB Telvin Smith, CB Prince Amukamara, House, FS Tashaun Gipson and SS Johnathan Cyprien. Ramsey came on the field for the second play.
*The second-team defense: DE Yannick Ngakoue, DE Tyson Alualu, DT Sen’Derrick Marks, DT Abry Jones, LB Myles Jack, LB Jordan Tripp, LB Ryan Davis, CB Nick Marshall, CB Demetrius McCray, FS Peyton Thompson and SS James Sample.
*Marks took some snaps at the strong-side defensive end with the third-team defense and Ramsey was also on the field with that group.
*Instant replay wasn’t available, but we called a potential interception by Gipson an incomplete pass.
*Further down the depth chart, DE Bjoern Werner used an outside and then inside move to beat LT Jeff Linkenbach on consecutive snaps.
*Bortles’ second-to-last series in 11-on-11 was forgettable: Fumbled snap, deflected-at-the-line pass that was caught by Thomas, House interception and scramble.
*The Jaguars didn’t run any red zone or no-huddle during practice.
*The back-up long snapper appears to be Tripp, who took a couple of reps after practice.

And which parts of practice are the best to watch?Mike Kaye 10 megfigyelése a szerdai becsekkolásról
Coach Gus Bradley’s fourth Jaguars team reported to training camp Wednesday and will be on the field Thursday for their first practice.
Here is a primer:
POSITION BATTLES
1. LEFT TACKLE
Newcomer Kelvin Beachum (ACL) has been cleared to participate but coach Gus Bradley said he may be limited to individual drills Thursday and then practice two out of three days early on. If healthy, Beachum is expected to supplant Luke Joeckel as quarterback Blake Bortles’ blind-side protector.
2. LEFT GUARD
Things are a little more complicated at left guard, manned the last two years by Zane Beadles, who was released and signed with San Francisco. Newcomer Mackenzy Bernadeau took nearly all of the first-team work in the offseason program, but Bradley said Beachum and Joeckel will also take snaps there.
3. NICKEL CORNERBACK
The nickel cornerback comes onto the field when the Jaguars use five defensive backs and covers the slot receiver. Aaron Colvin held that job last year, starting outside and then moving inside. But he’s suspended for the first four games. Rookie Jalen Ramsey will start outside and could move inside. But the Jaguars will also give Dwayne Gratz and Peyton Thompson snaps inside just in case the preferred matchup is to keep Ramsey outside.
PLAYERS WITH MOST TO GAIN
1. SS JOHNATHAN CYPRIEN
Cyprien, the Jaguars’ second-round pick in 2013, enters the final year of his rookie deal knowing he has to play better to get a second contract from the Jaguars or another team. His 21 missed tackles led the team last year. But look for a new Cyprien on the field – the coaches feel lining him up closer to the football will take better advantage of his physicality.
2. WR MARQISE LEE
Lee has missed nine games in two years with injuries and has only 52 catches (two touchdowns). But he was healthy and flashed during the offseason workouts. He’s the Jaguars’ fastest receiver and the opportunity remains in his hands – stay healthy and he’ll be a part of the game plan.
3. RB COREY GRANT
Grant could be the fastest player on the roster with 40-yard dash times of sub-4.3 seconds. But even with the addition of Chris Ivory and return to T.J. Yeldon, there could be a role for Grant. If he makes big plays in a scat-back, Darren Sproles-type role, he’ll be on the roster.
PLAYERS WITH MOST TO LOSE
1. LT LUKE JOECKEL
One of the players to watch in training camp. He’s scheduled to be a free agent next March. Will he enter the market as a left tackle, a left guard or the dreaded swing guy? If he moves inside and plays well at guard, could he re-sign with the Jaguars, something that seemed unfathomable during the offseason.
2. DE TYSON ALUALU
Alualu enters camp as the back-up strong-side defensive end, but the Jaguars met with free agent Greg Hardy last week and have floated the possibility of nose tackle Abry Jones getting snaps outside as well. The second-longest tenured Jaguars player (entering seventh year) could be on the bubble.
3. RB DENARD ROBINSON
Robinson has seen the Jaguars draft T.J. Yeldon and sign Chris Ivory the last two offseasons and it’s not a lock he will start the season as the No. 3 tailback. Robinson needs to show in practice and the preseason games he can hang onto the football and create explosive plays.
WHAT TO WATCH IN PRACTICE
1. COACHES OFF THE FIELD
The Jaguars started this in minicamp – the coaches would be stationed on the sidelines instead of behind the players, leaving them to make their own pre-snap adjustments. “I think we need that and that’s been good for our players,” coach Gus Bradley said. “We could do something unconventional like start off a team drill with the coaches off the field and have an eight-play drive and see what happens.”
2. THIRD-DOWN EMPHASIS
The Jaguars’ offense was 26th on third down last year and the defense was second-to-last. The greater commitment to situations will include much work on this down, both in practice and during walk-throughs. “We’ll have a high priority on third down,” Bradley said. “We felt in talking to our players, the segment we did every day in OTAs on third down was excellent.”
3. NO-HUDDLE/TWO-MINUTE
The Jaguars ran several segments of their no-huddle offense during the offseason workouts. Expect that to continue as they explore ways to starter faster in games. Bradley keeps score during this so the players get riled up. “We’ll do two-minute most every day,” Bradley said.
4. INDIVIDUAL LINEMEN DRILLS
The Jaguars’ first padded practice is Tuesday. That’s when business picks up for the big guys. The one-on-one pass rush drills are the highlight of camp. Fans will get to see which offensive linemen are susceptible to the bull rush and which defensive linemen are more about speed than power.

Drogfüggőségétől megszabadult már?Igen, megtalálta Istent. Most rendben van.

Jaguars coordinator Todd Wash ready to get defense rollingRemélem ő majd sikerrel jár a védelem gatyába rázását illetően.
Even those who had known him for two decades were shell-shocked in January when Todd Wash held his first staff meeting as the Jaguars’ defensive coordinator.
The task was a complete analysis of a system that lacked precision and big plays last year, failing to match the improvement on offense during a 5-11 season.
The first morning, Wash put on a 48-play video of a defense the Jaguars called in 2015. They broke for lunch 41/2 hours later after covering the first seven plays.
Yes, one play every 38.6 minutes — enough time to get halfway through a Donald Trump speech.
“I would joke, ‘We’re the most inefficient guys ever watching tape,’ ” assistant linebackers coach Scottie Hazelton says. “One day from 1-4:30 [p.m.], we got on a roll and did 16 plays. But there was a point to what he was doing.”
The point was clear.
Promoted from defensive line coach by Gus Bradley, Wash wanted to instantly create a new standard. Letting things like communication errors slide was unacceptable. Same for a player lining up in the wrong spot. Ditto for being unable to make a pre-snap adjustment. That meant marathon meetings. Every play merited a front-to-back analysis of what happened (even the good plays).
“I expect everything to be detailed — there’s no fudging in that area,” Wash says. “If we do the little things, we should be ready.”
Bradley believes Wash, whom he has known since 1987 and worked with at two colleges and three NFL teams, is the guy to get the Jaguars ready for Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers, Joe Flacco and Andrew Luck — in the first four weeks.
Just like last year’s decision to hire Greg Olson turned around the offense, Bradley is hoping Wash has the same impact, so he turned to his most-trusted ally.
Wash is the opposite of Bob Babich, the Jaguars’ coordinator from 2013-15. Tattoos cover his arms. He more than occasionally curses during an interview. He isn’t afraid to single out a player’s mistakes in front of the whole defense. And on Sundays this fall, every player and coach expects Wash to be an aggressive play-caller, dialing up more blitzes and playing more man coverage.
“He’s going to lean more to finding ways to getting pressure on the quarterback,” Bradley says.
Much is at stake. The Jaguars enter Year 4 of their massive build knowing owner Shad Khan’s patience will eventually run out. Another losing season and there will likely be staff changes. To win more games, the defense has to improve from last year’s rankings of 29th in passing yards allowed, 31st on third down and 31st in points allowed.
TWO-DAY NFL CAREER
Wash grew up in New Town, N.D., (pop. 2,363, according to the 2013 census) located on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, 100 miles east of Montana and 88 miles south of Canada. His high school graduation class was 32 students.
Wash played quarterback and free safety at New Town and was recruited by Montana State and North Dakota State.
He chose to stay in-state and play for the Bison, a Division II program that had won national championships in 1983 and 1985-86 and projected him as an effective pass rusher after a few years in the weight room. His coach was Rocky Hager, and upon arrival on campus in Fargo, he also met Bradley, who was two years ahead of him.
“When he first came in, you could see his athleticism — he could have easily been a tight end,” Bradley says.
In Wash’s four-year college playing career, the Bison went 43-6-1, including 14-0 national championship years in 1988 and 1990, his freshman and junior seasons. He finished with 22 sacks (now eighth in school history), including six sacks in the second national title-game victory, 51-11 over Indiana (Pa.).
“Exceptionally intense competitor,” says Hager, now the interim coach at the College of New Jersey. “He had the ability as an edge rusher to knock the other guy off-balance and get to the quarterback.”
Also at NDSU, Wash met Darci Steere when he was a senior and she was a freshman on the women’s basketball team. She played on three national championship teams and was inducted to the Bison Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012. They have three children — Alyssa (sophomore at St. Leo University), Jenae (junior at Bartram Trail High School) and Marcus (a fifth-grader). Darci says during her sophomore year, she took Hager’s “Methods of Coaching Football,” class to get ready for being a Football Wife.
“I didn’t know the ins and outs of the terminology, and I kind of knew [Todd and I] would end up together so I thought I should figure it out,” Darci says.
Wash played through knee, thumb and shoulder injuries at NDSU, which compromised his professional hopes. He signed with the Houston Oilers.
“I practiced two days, fell wrong on my shoulder and flunked my physical,” Wash says. “I went over to Europe and played a whole season and said, ‘This isn’t for me.’”
Coaching was for Wash.
YOUNG HEAD COACH
Wash was a student assistant and graduate assistant at North Dakota State before he followed Bradley to Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. After the 1995 season, Bradley was promoted to head coach and Wash to defensive coordinator.
But four months later, during spring practice, Bradley returned to NDSU as linebackers coach. Wash was named head coach. He was 28 years old.
“It was over my head, and I was no more ready for that than the man on the moon,” Wash says. “But somebody had faith in me or nobody else applied, one or the other.”
Hazelton was on Wash’s Fort Lewis staff.
“Fort Lewis was great for all of us because it taught us how to work because we had to do so many different things,” Hazelton says. “We would go in and pull the wooden benches out of the locker room and then sand them down and paint them ourselves just to make the locker room look nicer. And Washer was right there with us — he didn’t need to be doing that stuff as the head coach. But he’s just a worker.”
Wash was Fort Lewis’ head coach for four years — his first team went 5-5, the program’s first non-losing season in 11 years. After years of 4-7, 0-10, 2-9, Wash resigned to join conference rival Nebraska-Kearney as defensive coordinator.
In 2002, Wash returned to North Dakota State, hired by Babich. After two years, Babich resigned to join the St. Louis Rams and new coach Craig Bohl kept Bradley (although he demoted him from coordinator to linebackers coach) but did not retain Wash, who was the line coach.
“That stung. It really did,” Wash says. “And the timing of it was really late — there weren’t a lot of things out there at the time. But Craig said if he ever had an opening, he would bring me back. I thought that was the biggest crock of [garbage]. But when he did, he brought me back.”
Wash spent one year at Missouri Southern (2004) and then rejoined the Bison staff for two years (2005-06). After the 2005 season, Bradley left to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A year later, he recommended Wash to defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.
NFL ARRIVAL
Just like the NFL was never on Bradley’s radar until he joined the Buccaneers, the same goes for Wash. His goal was to become a Division I defensive coordinator. Kiffin, now a Jaguars senior assistant, created an opening when he promoted Bradley from quality control to linebackers coach.
“I said, ‘Hey, Kiff, there’s a great coach up at North Dakota State. He’s really into ball. I think you’d really like him,’” Bradley says. “He brought Washer in, was very impressed and hired him on the spot.”
Says Wash: “Somehow, I got the job. I was intimidated walking into a room with Kevin Carter, Chris Hovan, Simeon Rice, Greg Spires. I was like, ‘Holy [bleep], small-town kid from North Dakota, what the [heck] am I doing here?’ But football is football. You can either coach or you can’t.”
Wash was the quality control coach for Tampa Bay in 2007-08; in January 2009, coach Jon Gruden was stunningly fired (days earlier, Bradley was hired as Seattle’s defensive coordinator). Wash had two years left on his contract.
“I remember driving down the street, and it came across the radio that Jon had been let go,” Wash says. “My phone blew up, and the second call was Raheem [Morris], and all he said, ‘You’re fine. I’ll call you tomorrow.’ That was a load off knowing I was being retained.”
The Buccaneers promoted Morris from defensive backs coach to head coach. Wash was defensive line coach and current Jaguars offensive play-caller Olson remained the quarterbacks coach but was soon moved up to offensive coordinator.
It was during his time in Tampa Bay that Wash’s knowledge of the linebacker and defensive back groups became evident to Hager when he observed an offseason workout.
“He was the D-line coach, but in the video sessions and talking about the defense, he knew what was going on with the ends, the tackles, the linebackers, the free safety, the strong safety, the cornerbacks — he knew the total package,” Hager says. “The players know it matters to him, and they’re important to him.”
After the 2010 season, Wash had contract offers on his desk from Tampa Bay and Seattle. He chose to become the Seahawks’ line coach and rejoin Bradley.
“I wanted to be on the winning side of things,” Wash says. “Obviously, the icing on the cake was working with Gus again — I knew what kind of defensive line he wanted and how to coach with him and how to deal with him. It was just a great fit and a great opportunity with Pete [Carroll].”
The Seahawks posted 69 sacks in Wash’s two years. In January 2013, Bradley was hired by the Jaguars, and Wash joined him after Carroll released him from his contract. A year after Bradley and Wash left, Seattle won the Super Bowl, and current and former Seahawks credit both men with spearheading the rebuild.
PROMOTED … FOLLOWING SEARCH
Before last year, Wash added the title of run-game coordinator, and the Jaguars improved from 27th to 15th in that category and exposed the linebackers and secondary to Wash’s meeting-room presence.
Two days after the season, Babich was fired. The natural transition would have been to promote Wash because Bradley believed the right system was in place and an big philosophical overhaul wasn’t the antidote.
But he still brought in outside candidates, including former Detroit coach Jim Schwartz and Atlanta secondary coach Marquand Manuel, and had Wash sit in on the interviews, a process he admits was “really different.”
Wash was locked in as the defensive line coach so he experienced — or endured — the unorthodox search with job security.
“He was in a win-win situation,” Darci Wash says. “He had a great thing going as the defensive line coach, but he was waiting in the wings as well. It was next on his list of goals.”
The goal was achieved when Todd was officially promoted Jan. 21.
“I was so incredibly proud and happy for him,” Darci says. “I think he’s more than ready, and I’m not just saying that. I see all of the hard work he’s done and how much passion he has.”
Todd was more blunt: “I was as happy as a pig in [bleep]. … And then it was time to make sure we all got on the same page.”
That mission started with marathon meetings with the defensive staff. The players returned in late April and responded, asking for critical reviews during post-practice video sessions.
“He’s a strong personality, and when you have a strong personality in a position like his, it can motivate people,” defensive end Jared Odrick says. “[Wash] has a strong presence and guys responded to him right away.”
Wash, who will continue to coach the linemen, isn’t in this to be one-and-done as a coordinator. He spent too much time in Durango, Kearney and Fargo through the years to reach this stage and not be successful.
Wash has more talent at his disposal than Babich did — the opening-day defense will have new starters in Malik Jackson, Jalen Ramsey, Tashaun Gipson and Dante Fowler plus Myles Jack and Prince Amukamara.
“I don’t get caught up in [the speculation] and I never have,” he says. “We’re going to come in and do the best possible job we can.
“We’re going to have a chance because we have good players.”
