Early last season, when Tom Brady was struggling a bit with his completion percentage and some in the media were asking if Father Time had caught up with him, we had a brief chat in the locker room. He assured me better days were ahead because they'd be getting some more experienced guys back and they wouldn't have to rely so heavily on rookies who shouldn't be counted on in the first place. It was a reminder to me of the way things are often viewed internally and how that diverges with what we often talk about externally. Wouldn't be surprised if they actually double-dip in this area.)

(Reiss1:This isn't the strongest draft class at the position [tight end]. I don't necessarily see a "move" TE in the draft that would come in and immediately trump what they already have on the roster. Thus, I'd look closer at what they have in D.J. Williams and Mark Harrison and focus as much on their development as any prospect in this year's draft.
Reiss2:We view Niklas a bit differently as I could see him helping this year and believe he has a phsyical makeup that is hard to find at the TE position. I think the question basically comes down to this: If you view Amaro as basically an oversized WR, do you value that highly enough in the first 32 picks? I have doubts the Patriots would when they could look down the line and feel they were getting a similar talent such as Florida's Trey Burton in the middle rounds.) He would give them some needed depth at end, but someone like Notre Dame defensive tackle Louis Nix would provide a better every-down option in the middle. New England got by last season with players like Chris Jones and Joe Vellano while Vince Wilfork and Tommy Kelly were injured. Nix would make New England less reliant on that hodgepodge group while a depth pass rusher could be found later in the draft.)
